Johan de Meij’s first symphony The Lord of the Rings is based on the trilogy of that name by J.R.R. Tolkien. This book has fascinated many millions of readers since its publication in 1955. The symphony consists of five separate movements each illustrating a personage or an important episode from the book. The fifth movement expresses the carefree and optimistic character of the Hobbits in a happy folk dance; the hymn that follows emanates the determination and noblesse of the hobbit folk. The symphony does not end on an exuberant note but is concluded peacefully and resigned in keeping with the symbolic mood of the last chapter “The Grey Havens” in which Frodo andGandalf sail away in a white ship and disappear slowly beyond the horizon. Winner of the Sudler International Wind Band Composition prize in 1989 this is one of the most popular works for wind bands around the world. Wind Band score and parts.

This easy concert march can be divided into two parts. The first part which is rhythmical beautifully contrasts with the second part which is lyrical. Each section of the band has its turn in this concertmarch which in spite of its easy level of difficulty deserves the designation “five-star piece.”

In composing Puszta Jan Van der Roost wrote folk dances related to Slavonic folk music. Its character and sounds are comparable to the Hungarian and Slavonic dances by Brahms and Dvorak and to the Hungarian Rhapsodies by Liszt. All the melodies however are newly composed not adapted from existing dances.

After Schubert’s death in 1828 his brother Ferdinand passed on thirteen songs based on texts by Ludwig Rellstab and Heinrich Heine to the publisher Haslinger. Schubert had only composed them shortly before his death in August 1828. During his lifetime Schubert actually wanted to publish the two groups of Lieder separately. However the Heine and Rellstab songs are indeed closely related. Haslinger added a fourteenth Lied “Die Taubenpost” based on a text by Johann Gabriel Seidl which Schubert had composed at the same time as “Der Hirt auf dem Felsen” (D 965) one month before his death but which in no way bears any relation to the Rellstab and Heine Lieder. Thiscollection was published posthumously by Haslinger early in May 1829 and it was named Schwanengesang – traditionally the term given to an artist’s last work before his death. This collection is here presented in an authoritative Barenreiter Urtext Edition for Medium Voice. Based on the Urtext of the “New Schubert Edition” Foreword by Walther Dürr about the genesis and history of the works and the available sources for each individual Lied (Ger/Eng) English translations of the Lied texts by Richard Wigmore

The study score of Bela Bartok's Divertimento for String Orchestra. Written in 1939 the piece is the last of Bartok's European writing before his intended flee to America to escape the war. Characterised by his fascinating use of Balkan harmonies and tonalities the writing represents Bartok's increasingly classical clarity of form and texture. The small-format study score is ideal for students of music or as a convenient reference for conductors and musicians. Hawkes Pocket Score edition 28.

In 2006 a long-time dream of Philip Sparke finally became reality: to compose a set of variations on the famous chorale from Saint-Saëns’ renowned Organ Symphony. In 2009 the composer reworked the piece for brass band. The resulting Saint-Saëns Variations has been simplified shortened and in many places completely recomposed to distill the essence of the symphony even further and allow younger bands to enjoy the power of Saint-Saëns’ masterpiece in an approachable yet completely faithful work.

Book 1-Sonata No. 1 Op. 5 Two Preludes Op. 52 Two Meditations Op. 57 A Quiet Voluntary Op. 70 Basil Harwood's organ music takes a chronological journey through the composer's creative years. This journey begins with the Organ Sonata No. 1 in C sharp minor op. 5 and ends with Quiet Voluntary for Evensong op. 70 composed in 1946 when the composer was eighty-seven. In the intervening years came many and varied compositions often demanding an instrument of ample resources together with a player equal to their somewhat formidable technical demands. Displaying a fine sense of craftsmanship they represent an important contribution to the organ repertoire.Unjustly neglected in the years since the composer's death it is hoped that these six volumes will continue the ever-growing interest in Basil Harwood's music.

Christmas Scene-In terra pax Christmas Scene for soprano & baritone soli chorus & orchestra (1954/6). The text conflates Robert Bridges’s poem Noel: Christmas Eve (1913) and Luke 2: 8-14. Finzi suggested that the Nativity ‘becomes a vision seen by a wanderer on a dark and frosty Christmas Eve in our own familiar landscape’.In terra pax is a masterpiece in miniature Finzi’s pacifism at its heart and his belief that men and women of goodwill should live harmoniously. Weaving through the music are three ideas: the pealing of the bells with their joyous message a phrase from the carol The First Nowell and the alleluia refrain from the hymn Lasst uns erfreuen.Christmas Scene for Soprano and Baritone Soli small chorus Harp or Piano Cymbals and Strings.
