Finger Paintings is designed to provide piano students with a wide variety of music repertoire which will enhance reading and performance skills. But who needs a new critical edition of The Barber of Seville ? The opera has been performed in theatres throughout the world since 1816 and has never been absent from the repertoire. There are two reasons for a critical new edition: firstly none of the early editions satisfy modern demands for a scholarly-critical edition. And secondly there is a wealth of previously unpublished material relating to this opera of great interest to both scholars and performers. Thusthe famous overture which Rossini had already used in his earlier opera Aureliano in Palmira differs noticeably from earlier editions in many places. Morning Song features the horn quartet mostly in a soloistic role - indeed there is an accompanied cadenza towards the end of the piece - but there are moments where the horns assume their conventional brass band role as harmonic support or playing the counter melody. This expressive composition shows all the versatility of the horn quartet and gives them the chance to be in the spotlight.

George Frederick Handel 's (1685-1759) Sonata No. 6 is well-known to the Violin repertoire. Therefore when French saxophonist Marcel Mule (1901-2001) arranged the popular piece for the Saxophone in 1951 it was very well-received. The Sonata No. 6 is made up of four movements: Adagio Allegro Largo and Allegro non troppo. Handel 's Sonata No. 6 was first published in 1732. Mule 's editions ensure that the Saxophone part contains the articulation phrasing and breath marks necessary to the instrument. For all classical saxophonists this Mule arrangement of the popular SonataNo. 6 is essential.

This work is based on the famous stories of Baron Münchhausen. In these tall tales the baron undertook all sorts of fabulous adventures. He flew for example on a cannonball or rode on a horse torn in two; he turned a hungry wolf inside out and pulled himself out of a swamp by his own hair.The historical figure of Münchhausen did exist and some of the tales were actually recounted by him while others have since been attributed to him. Four of the tales served as the inspiration for this composition. The music isn’t simply a word-for-word transcription of the stories however but rather conveys a particular mood or specific scene often with a humorous twist.Here are thefour parts of the composition: The Horse : During a snowstorm the baron ties his horse to a post and falls into a deep sleep. As he awakes the snow is melted away and the horse is dangling from the top of a church spire. Cannonball : The baron jumps onto a cannonball in flight to spy on a city under siege. In mid-air he decides to return whence he came by stepping onto a cannonball flying in the other direction. He then gets shot into the city a second time and opens the gates from within. Flight to the Moon : Baron Münchhausen flies to the moon in a floating spacecraft where he meets all sorts of strange creatures. Journey through the Earth : The baron jumps down into the bowels of Mount Etna and sets off on an adventurous journey right through the centre of the Earth.

Solemnity gives expression to the different emotions that we feel at solemn official or ritual events: quiet pride hope and reflection but also grandeur stateliness and joy. The work contains one large construction with different high points whereby the main theme is varied or orchestrated each time in one way or another finally ending in an impressive finale.

Duetto Per Violoncello E Contrabbasso . Composed in London near the end of 1824 the Duetto is one of the few chamber music works regularly performed today. It is a light and charming composition yet requires experienced performers. The work was often performed in the 19th century by the Double Bass virtuoso Domenico Dragonetti (called ‘Il drago’ or ‘Paganini of the Double Bass’) and we know that Rossini was acquainted with and consulted Dragonetti on matters dealing with the instrument. Meditation on 'Quem Pastores Laudavere'-Carol of the Shepherds is based on the hymn tune 'Quem Pastores Laudavere' which dates back to the 14th century and is widely known throughout the Christian world. Although the melody has been set to a number of different texts in different countries it was originally a carol celebrating the Christmas story in particular the visit of the Angel Gabriel to the shepherds.

Philip Sparke has sourced the original Ukrainian melody to create this stirring arrangement. To this day Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains one of the most prolific composers for wind instruments despite being a violinist himself. His Douze études-Caprices for Saxophone will enable the pupil to attain brilliant technique on the instrument. During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire Bozza won prizes for Violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and became Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes whilst remaining a prominent composer. The studies in Bozza 's books prepare students for the most difficultrhythms and melody writings. Furthermore Douze études-Caprices contains exercises on range intervals embouchure breath control phrasing articulation and dynamics among other aspects. Being Caprices all Bozza 's studies are lively short and free from form making for a unique and essential aid in the progression of advanced Saxophone studies.
