Sanctuary was commissioned by Eastern Bay of Plenty Brass from New Zealand – and was performed as an own choice piece at the 2018 New Zealand National Brass Band Championships. It opens with an expressive cornet solo hymn-like in mood. A slightly faster central section builds to a change of key and an expansive return of the opening melody this time scored for full band. After an emotional climax the mood subsides leading to a quiet close. A short antiphonal setting of the anonymous fifteenth century text by Cumbrian-born composer Phillip Cooke

Henderson is a city in Clark County Nevada just southeast of Las Vegas and surrounded by desert: this was the inspiration for the title. Desert Dances opens with a lively introduction mostly in 3/4 which pervades the faster sections of the piece. This subsides to introduce a slower dance which expands to a full-band climax. The introduction soon returns and leads to the main theme of the piece a waltz-like melody played by the full ensemble. A short bridge passage follows which leads to a legato central theme. This is played twice and heralds the return of the main theme and a short coda which closes the work. An imaginative work for concert or contest withnice features throughout all groups of the band. This three-movement work by the Swiss composer Etienne Crausaz reflects three true stories and fascinating legends from the Middle Ages. The first movement tells the dramatic story of the ‘witch’ Catherine ‘Catillon’ Repond (1662–1731). She was the last woman ever to be executed for sorcery. In the second movement the famous court jester Girard Chalamala occupies centre stage. This jester the last one at the castle of Count Greyerz could make everyone laugh. The third movement tells the story of Count Michael. He went down in history as a spendthrift bon-vivant. His burden of debt became so high that he did a moonlight flit and never came back!

Mårten Jansson is internationally known particularly for his masses: the Missa brevis in E-flat minor and the Missa Popularis are regularly performed in concert programmes. The new Missa Brevis Arosiensis is stylistically connected with these masses. Due to its moderate technical difficulty manageable length and overall positive mood it can be tackled even by amateur choirs. The mass was commissioned for the Mariakören the choir of the Västerås cathedral Sweden. The title Arosiensis refers to this city.

The work is composed as a suite containing four movements: Carnelian: The Stone of Perseverance Opal: The Stone of Misfortune Amethyst: The Stone of Wisdom and Amazonite: The Stone of Playfulness . The idea for this book series is to give instrumentalists the opportunity to practice solo improvisational techniques while playing along to rhythm tracks of keyboards guitar bass drums/percussion in various different Latin styles including Calypso Mambo Salsa Songo Bossa Guaracha Samba and Latin-Blues. The 24 grooves totalling over 200 riffs/phrases and play-a-long tracks consists of a variety of tempos and keys. Each groove has a variety of riffs to learn that are generally 4 or 8 measures in length. It would be beneficial if you could memorize these riffs so that you can experiment using different permutations of the riffs as well as being used as a starting offpoint for one's own improvisations. Each riff has been recorded with a rhythm track with each style having an extended play-a-long track around 3 minutes in length recorded without the solo part so you can practice the riffs that you have learned. Also these musical phrases or riffs may be interchanged from one groove to another and should be learned in as many keys as possible. The idea for this book series is to give instrumentalists the opportunity to practice solo improvisational techniques while playing along to rhythm tracks of keyboards guitar bass drums/percussion in various different Latin styles including Calypso Mambo Salsa Songo Bossa Guaracha Samba and Latin-Blues.
