Written for the Paris Conservatoire contest Myriades is a piece by François Dupin for Drums and Piano accompaniment. Dedicated to Jacques Delécluse this volume includes score parts and a scheme describing how to organise the Drums in the room. Considered as very difficult (8°) this piece requires some really good knowledge of the instruments and some strong abilities. However this great work is really interesting to play and should be really appreciated by the audience. It can be used for a contest or a recital. François Dupin (1931-1994) is a French musician and composer who studiedat the Paris Conservatoire won First Prizes including for composition and who dedicated his life to teach the Drums.

Fanfare for Billy- Salute to a Hero was composed to honour the work of a truly deserving musician teacher and conductor. It opens with a noble brass fanfare with woodwind ornamentation. Following a short interlude the opening fanfare is again heard this time being played by the full band. A lyrical middle section follows providing a beautiful and peaceful contrast to the powerful sound of the brass section. The fanfare makes one final appearance bringing the work to a triumphant close.

Maï by Ryo Noda a Japanese composer is a unique piece of work for solo Saxophone that is strongly influenced by Japanese music. With some sonority supposed to be quite close to those of a koto and of a shakuhachi this piece is very technical and complex to play. The story behind this work is about the ghost of a Japanese Samurai. While his wife asks why he let her behind and left to fight in the war he tries to justify his choices. Most of the work depicts the struggle within the mind of the Samurai between ending his life and living in the end of his enemies. The screaming altissimo at the end is the climax of his strugglewhich then followed by a 10 second silence that represents his death. The technical abilities required are: large interval leaps rapid trills alternate fingerings to achieve pitch bending multiphonics altissimo portamento and cutting tone.
