Cor En Fa Et Piano- Blai Maria Colomer (1833-1917) was a Spanish pianist and composer. Following his studies at the Paris Conservatoire he led a successful career as a teacher and composer. He is best remembered for his operas yet his Fantaisie Légende for Horn remains popular as a competition work at the Paris Conservatoire. Fantaisie Légende is a chromatic work for Horn in F first popularised in the 1899 solo Horn contest at the Paris Conservatoire. Fantaisie Légende exploits chromatic techniques by use of complex rhythms and variations in articulation as well as lyricalpassages. For all advanced Horn players seeking extravagant repertoire Colomer 's Fantaisie Légende provides an exciting addition to the repertoire.

In this piece the composer depicts a mother who hears her unborn baby cry for her. She is thrown into doubt as to whether she will keep the child and passes this feeling onto the baby. Underlying this successful work is the Bach chorale Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern and has already proven itself as a winning piece in several renowned contests!

The famous 'Browning' variations are probably an early display of the composer's mastery of the form. The only complete Fantasia à 4 is found in the Psalmes Songs & Sonnets of 1611. Two other examples are reconstructed from fragmentary sources and appear in this volume with hymn-settings and Misereres two pavans and a galliard.
