John Stanley (1713-1786) was a British composer conductor and organist. Having learnt to play the Organ at the age of seven he became the youngest person to ever obtain a B.Mus. degree from Oxford at the age of 17. He was appointed Master of the King’s Musick in 1779 and wrote many odes for the monarch. However most of his music has now been lost and only his Organ works have remained in popular use to this day. Prelude and Bell Allegro for Organ have been edited and arranged by the American composer Patrick Williams (b. 1939).

Opus 2 no. 1-Edward Elgar (1857-1934) originally composed this work in 1887 as a Pie Jesu when he was an organist in the St George’s Church in Worcester. Years later in 1902 he transformed the Pie Jesu into an Ave Verum for soprano and tenor solo mixed choir and organ. This excellent arrangement was created by Robert van Beringen and skilfully retains the wonderful atmosphere of the original composition.

Robert Schumann’s Carnaval is much more than a set of character pieces and musical portraits it is in fact also a work of ingenious orthographies. Schumann realized that the name of his fiancée's hometown ‘Asch’ could be translated into notes according to the German reckoning of pitch names: ‘A’ became A natural ‘S’ (Es) E flat ‘C’ C natural and ‘H’ B natural.
