Having been considered as a 'fashionable' and 'cliché' composer of his day Hahn 's compositions are possibly not as well-known as they ought to be. Sonata In C Major for Violin and Piano however shatter these prejudices held representing the engaging diversity of the composer's music. Venezuelan-born Reynaldo Hahn (1875-1947) entered the Paris Conservatoire at 10 years old. He received a high standard of musical education from Decombes Lavignac Dubois and Massenet before becoming a prolific and versatile composer himself writing works for all genres. For Hahn music was a magical art andhis compositions often contain expressions of his otherwise hidden emotions and moods. Sonata In C Major contains a variety of different features making for a pleasant and evocative piece for advanced violinists.

for Solo Horn and Brass Band- Moon River is the title song of the famous 1961 motion picture Breakfast at Tiffany’s . Over the years the song was covered by many major stars turning it into an absolute evergreen around the world. The beauty of the melody is also suited for mellow sounding instruments like the Eb alto horn; a great reason for the British composer and arranger Christopher Bond to make a version for brass band and alto horn. Duo Concertante Op. 351 by Darius Milhaud was composed in 1956 for the Paris Conservatoire Contest. Many influences can be recognised in this piece: from the Provence where he was born to Jazz and other melodies of South America. Lasting approximately 7 minutes Duo Concertante Op. 351 is started by a fanfare with a strong energy reminiscent of the South of France followed by a simple and moderate Clarinet partly joined by Piano chords. The initial theme is then repeated one last time for the finale. Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) was a French modernist composer and a teacher. He wasalso part of the Les Six and was strongly influenced by Jazz. His opus list ended at 443.

Famous Choral movements arranged for Choir and Organ. Magnificent sound maintained for this smaller-ensemble arrangement. The movement “Jauchzet frohlocket auf preiset die Tage” (Shout ye exultant this Day of Salvation) is an essential part of the Christmas music repertoire but for many parishes a lack of instrumentalists and finances makes the performance of the work in its original orchestration very difficult. This “Choir and Organ” arrangement of the popular Choral movements from parts I-III of Bach ’s Christmas Oratorio responds to precisely this need for a smaller orchestration. A second volume with the choir movements fromparts IV-VI will be published later.

Gabriel Fauré 's Nocturnes nos. 1-8. Gabriel Fauré was born in Pamiers (Ariège) on 12 May 1845. Owing to his precocious musical gifts he was able at the age of nine to enter the celebrated Niedermeyer School founded in Paris to train organists and choirmasters. For about ten years he received instruction of great quality centred mainly on the study of sacred music and the great classic masterpieces into which he was initiated notably by Camille Saint-Saëns his Piano teacher. As soon as he left the school Fauré began a brilliant career as an organist. In 1896 he succeededThéodore Dubois as an organist at the Church of the Madeleine in Paris and was appointed professor of composition at the Conservatory where his pupils included Ravel Koechlin Enesco and Schmitt. Meanwhile he had met Liszt in Weimar and had been initiated into Wagner's art which however never really influenced him. Appointed director of the Conservatory in 1905 after Théodore Dubois' resignation a member of the French Institute and music critic Fauré spent his last years in solitude suffering from an irreversible deafness that obliged him to resign from the Conservatory in 1920. He died in Paris on 4 th November 1924. The music of this sometimes misunderstood composer who wrote in nearly all genres (except Organ music) is of great refinement. An enemy of bombast Fauré put his elegant counterpoint a highly individual harmonic style unpredictable turns of phrase and the secret of an unusual musical sensitivity at the service of music that is both varied and of very high quality.
