Forty-Eight Studies of Virtuosity- Having studied the Flute with virtuosos Paul Taffanel Adolphe Hennebains and Philippe Gaubert at the Paris Conservatoire Marcel Moyse (1889-1984) soon became a virtuoso of the instrument himself. 48 Studies of Virtuosity for Flute is one of many popular study books by the renowned flautist. During his career Moyse frequently played solo Flute with many orchestras including performing the main concertos of the repertory. As well as performing and composing Moyse was responsible for the training of a brilliant generation of flautists at the Paris Conservatoire. Following WWI the composer moved to the UnitedStates where he continued to perform compose and teach. It is during his time in the USA that Moyse composed his extensive number of instructive books on instrumental technique including 48 Studies of Virtuosity which today remain universally accepted and popular. Moyse 's book is essential to all aspiring advanced flautists.

However he took a different stance for his Thème et Variations for Violin and Piano composing it as a wedding present for his first wife Claire Delbos in 1932. The couple gave its first performance during the same year. Admitted to the Paris Conservatoire at the mere age of eleven Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) was an outstanding pupil winning many prizes. Thème et Variations was composed shortly after his appointment as titular organist at the Sainte Trinité church in Paris and is often considered to be characteristic of his famous Quatour pour la fin dutemps. Made up of a theme and five variations it begins simplistically before entering the complex variations. The theme is composed in common time and at a moderate tempo. Each variation varies in dynamics time signature tempo tonality and rhythm among other elements; however Messiaen cleverly retains suggestions of the theme all throughout. Book 1-A prolific composer of Victorian church music Caleb Simper was a humble musician whose choral works sold in vast quantities rightly deserving their publisher's accolade as being 'sung throughout the civilised world'. Born in Wiltshire in 1857 Simper was largely self-taught. He attempted a number of professions including piano tuning before finding his vocation as an organist. As with his choral music of which he wrote 162 anthems under his own name and many others under the pseudonym of Edwyn A Clare his organ voluntaries offer playable and practical music for organists of limited technical ability on two staves.

Ainsi est née la collection CrocK’MusiC qui permet aujourd’hui à tous l’étude de ces transcriptions.
