Immediately after completing “St. Paul” in 1836 Mendelssohn mulled over the idea of composing a further oratorio. However a whole decade elapsed before the composition of “ Elijah ” which takes as its theme the story of the Biblical prophet from the 1st Book of Kings. When he received the invitation to write a major work for the Birmingham Music Festival Mendelssohn finally embarked on work on the oratorio. “ Elijah ” was premiered in 1846 in Birmingham with great success and has enjoyed great popularity ever since. Following the first performance Mendelssohn undertook a revision of the oratorio inwhich whole numbers were removed and new ones substituted. This is the version which was first heard in 1847 in London and which is still performed today. To mark the Mendelssohn anniversary year 2009 the Mendelssohn specialist Douglass Seaton Professor at Florida State University prepared a critical new edition of the oratorio. The edition reflects the latest research findings and includes both English and German singing texts. Choosing an opera libretto is always delicate particularly if the work is aimed at young adults or teenagers (performers and audience). Published in 1880 Guy Maupassant's short story 'Dumpling' contains all of the elements essential to the process fruition and purpose of my work. In 1870 France was conquered and occupied. The Prussians marched into Rouen. The analogies with contemporary history are numerous and offer choir conductors and teachers multiple sources of reflection and analysis. The dignitaries whoreadily give in to power and collaborate with the occupier contrast with a young prostitute who is brave generous and patriotic. The libretto was taken straight from the original text though some cuts were necessary in order to keep the rhythm and momentum required in setting Maupassant's story to music. - Isabelle Aboulker

He also composed and published a variety of works including his unusual yet significant Bruits De Paroles. Pennetier 's Bruits De Paroles is an unusual yet helpful aid to choral singing. Volume 10 K.458-506- Italian composer Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) is well-known for his Keyboard compositions. His 555 Keyboard Sonatas remain ever popular to this day and it is for this reason that this tenth volume is indispensable to performers of the genre. Originally composed for the Harpsichord Organ or early Pianoforte the Sonatas display the riveting use of discords and unconventional modulations to remote keys. It is also thought that much of Scarlatti 's Keyboard music contains influences of Iberian music considering that he spent much of his working life in the service of the Spanish and Portuguese royal families.The tenth volume comprising Sonatas 458-506 includes the popular and recognisable Sonata in F minor (K. 466). Bearing in mind that Domenico Scarlatti was a highly competent and popular Keyboard player in his day so much so that he was employed in the service of two royal families his Sonatas are composed with much experience understanding and expertise creating an essential addition to the repertoire of all Keyboard players of the Baroque genre.
