Ballade for Alto Saxophone and Saxophone ensemble was composed in 1938 by the French composer Henri Tomasi (1901-1971). Introduced by a poem by Suzanne Mallard his wife Ballade is a 15-minute piece that covers and alternates between different styles such as Andantino Guigue and Blues. The poem refers to a clown who claims his story to the night. It is a short poem of four verses composed with rhymes in A/B/A/B formation. Henri Tomasi who won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1927 also composed a variety of concerto for Alto Saxophone for Trumpet and for Trombone as well as some ballades.

The Great- The series of symphonies in the New Schubert Edition is a milestone of modern scholarly-critical editing lending these works a transparency lacking in earlier editions of a more romantic bent. The eight symphonies trace Schubert ’s artistic evolution from the First Symphony which develops a theme from Beethoven’s Eroica to the Mozartean Fifth and the romanticism of the 'Great' Eighth. Christmas Cantata (Sinfonia Sacra) the most famous piece by Daniel Pinkham composed in 1957 is a church composition for Chorus Double Brass and Organ. Written in Latin this version of the piece contains the Chorus score (SATB) with the Organ reduction. Accessible to good high-school and college singers the opening statement is sung by the whole SATB followed by the rhythmically complex Allegro section. The middle section is sung by Sopranos and Altos while the Rondo which is part of the final part is sung by the whole SATB its verses being interpreted by the different groups. Daniel Pinkham (1923-2006) is anAmerican composer organist and harpsichordist. Most of his compositions were related to church music and his best known works are the Christmas Advent and Wedding Cantatas.

Proud was written for the music event Grutsk which is the Friesian word for proud – hence the title. Various bands have performed on five different stages across the town centre. The finale was performed in a concert held at Wilhelminaplein (Wilhelmina Square) which opened with this work. This world premiere was conducted by the composer himself. The bagpipes areoptional but advisable. As a whole they give the composition a very special sound.
