In 2006 a long-time dream of Philip Sparke finally became reality: to compose a set of variations on the famous chorale from Saint-Saëns’ renowned Organ Symphony. In 2009 the composer reworked the piece for brass band. The resulting Saint-Saëns Variations has been simplified shortened and in many places completely recomposed to distill the essence of the symphony even further and allow younger bands to enjoy the power of Saint-Saëns’ masterpiece in an approachable yet completely faithful work.

In the intervening years came many and varied compositions often demanding an instrument of ample resources together with a player equal to their somewhat formidable technical demands. Displaying a fine sense of craftsmanship they represent an important contribution to the organ repertoire.Unjustly neglected in the years since the composer's death it is hoped that these six volumes will continue the ever-growing interest in Basil Harwood's music.

Finzi suggested that the Nativity ‘becomes a vision seen by a wanderer on a dark and frosty Christmas Eve in our own familiar landscape’.In terra pax is a masterpiece in miniature Finzi’s pacifism at its heart and his belief that men and women of goodwill should live harmoniously. Trompeten-Ouvertüre- The Overture in C major the so-called Trumpet Overture with its brass fanfare was composed in 1826 and a second version with considerable revisions was made in 1833 for performances in Dusseldorf and London. The Overture in C major was first published posthumously in 1867. Christopher Hogwood's Urtext edition takes into account both Mendelssohn's autograph now held in the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris which has two endings as well as the London manuscript copy made for the performance there in 1834; this manuscript contains three separate trombone parts in Mendelssohn's hand. The newBärenreiter edition presents the work as found in Mendelssohn's autograph for the first time. In early 1729 Bach became director of the so-called »Scottish Collegium Musician« a music organization of students and local citizens. The remarkable results of this undertaking are the concertos for harpsichord. Today it is almost certain that practically all of these concertos were transcribed from concertos for melody instruments (mostly violin or oboe). The Concerto in F major BWV 1052 is the sixth of the harpsichord concertos contained in the autograph score that Bach wrote out in or around 1738 (Berlin Staatsbibliothek Mus. ms. Bach P 234). The initials at the end of the piece SDGl ('Soli Deo Gloria') form a pendant to the J.J. ('Jesus Juva') found at theopening of the D-minor Concerto BWV 1052. This indicates that BVW 1057 formed the final piece in this six-work opus the only authentic and self-contained collection of concertos we have from Bach apart from his presentation copy of the Brandenburg Concertos (1721). Like all the other concertos in this series BWV 1057 is an arrangement of an earlier work in this case the Fourth Brandenburg Concerto in G major (BWV 1049).
