Complete Piano Sonatas II- Piano works were at the centre of Alexander Scriabin 's compositional output. As an outstanding pianist he began writing mainly miniatures for his instrument in the style of Romantic Piano pieces. But it was also Scriabin who unlike any other composer of his generation contributed to the continuation of the sonata tradition. Particular milestones in his output were Sonatas nos. 4 and 5 of 1903 and 1907 in which we hear forms and harmonies not heard previously. When these works are occasionally given the name 'Poème' Sonatas this indicates that they stem from the time and allude to the compositional context of Scriabin 'sdaring Orchestral works 'Le Divin Poème' and 'Le Poème de lexstase'. The editor Christoph Flamm is an expert in Russian music particularly Piano music. His research for example into Nikolai Medtner and the editions based on these findings are regarded as standard works. For his Bärenreiter edition of Scriabin 's Sonata no. 5 Christoph Flamm has drawn on sources which were until recently regarded as lost or could only be consulted with great difficulty. Scriabin 's Complete Piano Sonatas will be published in 4 volumes. - Urtext edition based on the latest source research. - With facsimiles which also give information about the rediscovered sources. - Detailed foreword (Ger/Eng) and critical commentary (Eng).

According to a famous statement by Herder folk songs represent the archives of a nation’s knowledge the expression of its heart and theimage that reflects its history and identity. Suite Marchigiana is a three movement piece inspired by folk songs from the Marche in central Italy a region with a very ancient and rich folkloristic heritage. The first movement elaborates on the well-known Pasquella . The Pasquella comes from a traditional winter begging ritual where a group of musicians go from house to house singing verses wishing their audience good health wealth and abundance in return for small amounts of money food and wine. The second movementis an Andante Triste inspired by an old song called Sona la mezzanotte (The Clock Strikes Midnight) a melancholic song that reminds us of unhappy love stories bereavement and so on. Luciano Feliciani concludes the suite with the Saltarello Marchigiano which is bright and sparkling and therefore in complete contrast with the previous movement. Although unproven the Saltarello is thought to have its origins in the 'saltatio' (a latin dance). While the choreae were group dances circular in structure and with a rhythmic progression the saltationes were more lively in character. The fast frenetic and joyous saltarello was without any doubt the most famous musical expression of rural central Italy in the nineteenth century.

Pastorale- Between 1996 and 2000 Bärenreiter published scholarly-critical editions of Beethoven 's Nine Symphonies edited by the first class musicologist Jonathan Del Mar. The editorial process was a huge undertaking because of the complex source situation regarding Beethoven 's Symphonies culminating in the Choral Symphony (No.9) which came down to the publisher in nearly 20 different sources. So it was not surprising that Bärenreiter's new Urtext edition caused a considerable stir in the music world. Since publication Del Mar's edition enjoys the unabashed praise of conductors performers and critics alike and has become the most widely used publication ofthe Beethoven Symphonies which can be heard not only every day in concert halls but also on CD recordings by John Eliot Gardiner David Zinman Jos van Immerseel and Claudio Abbado. Full scores study scores and complete performance material to Beethoven ’s Nine Symphonies are available for sale.

The music in this book is appealing sometimes truly great music which just happens to be simple. None of the pieces is merely 'educational' - almost al of them had successful lives of their own before they found their way here - and they have all been chosen for their individual purely musical strengths. However the book is more than just a collection of performable pieces; the pieces in it are roughly graded and very varied in their demands so that any player who works through them will have the chance to consolidate and polish their technique. They are also more than usually varied in style. They will give some unexpected pleasure and signpost some interesting and enjoyablepathways that might otherwise have remained unexplored. A unique range of exciting and varied music from Bach to Bernstein for the early grades selected and arranged by Howard Harrison. A range of styles including English folk melodies jazz and modern classics are all included in one collection.
