Beethoven wrote his three Sonatas opp. 10 in 1795/98 and dedicated them to Countess von Browne-Camus. Compared with the Sonatas opp. 2 the composer takes another notable step forward with them both with respect to piano technique as well as to the treatment of the sonata movement form. The opening movement of the first sonata presented here recalls Mozart’s “Great” c minor K. 457. Perhaps his most emotional slow movement up to that time the Adagio molto ends with an exuberant assertive Prestissimo. The Piano Sonata No. 5 in C Minor (Op.10 No.1) was written in 1798 and dedicated to Anna Margarete von Browne the wife of a Russian diplomat who was Beethoven's main patron at the time. One of his earlierworks it is in three movements: Allegro molto e con brio - Adagio molto - Prestissimo . Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827) was a German composer and pianist and arguably the most famouscomposer of all time. He was the last great figure of the Classical era and helped pave the way for the Romantic style that followed. His compositions include 9 Symphonies 5 Piano Concertos 1 Violin Concerto 32 Piano Sonatas and 16 String Quartets.

POD-Nico Muhlys Stabat Mater Dolorosa for Soprano Baritone and Ensemble. Full score. My Stabat Mater is a very simply-constructed piece of music. I knew I wanted to write a duet a piece of religious music and something to go along with a bit of Birtwistle. My initial instinct was to base the piece on drones as Birtwistles musichas so very many notes but then I decided that an austere but ecstatic approach was the best to fill a coherent evening. I asked my friend Craig Lucas to paraphrase the Stabat Mater text - which describes the Virgin Mary weeping at the foot of thecross on which her son is crucified. The piece is organised by separating each phrase of the text with a moment of silence with the exception of the last three which are joined with a frenzied chorale with improvised dynamics from the Harp Windand Strings. - Nico MuhlyInstrumentation: Soprano and Baritone voice Flute Clarinet in Bb Harp Violin Viola and Violoncello. Élégie for Violoncello and Piano op. 24-Following the enthusiastic reception of his first Violin Sonata (HN 980) it was clear to Fauré that he would continue to write chamber music. In 1880 he wrote a little piece for cello and piano that was intended as the slow movement for a sonata. However Fauré gave up the sonata project instead publishing the piece under the title “Élégie”. It was so successful that Fauré was urged by the publisher to write further pieces. The conductor Édouard Colonne commissioned a version of the “Élégie” for orchestra in 1895 which was premièred two years later. As usual our Urtext edition contains both a marked and an unmarked solo part.Following the enthusiastic reception of his first Violin Sonata (HN980) it was clear to Fauré that he would continue to write chamber music.
