This work for soprano and baroque chamber orchestra using text by William Blake was commissioned by The Academy of Ancient Music on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. The piece is dedicated to the memory of Diana Princess ofWales. Quoting Tavener:The concept of solo soprano (representing earth) at ground level handbells (representing the angels) at an intermediate position and the main baroque ensemble at a high level (representing heaven) fittedexactly with the Blake text which I had decided to set. When seen as things truly are the earth is a mirror of the Eternal World and when seen correctly it is possible in this world to live in Eternity's sunrise. God does notexist in the world. And yet at the same time He is reflected in it giving it form and structure. The music should be played with quiet joy as a day of sunshine and calm full of gentleness and radiance. Duration c. 15mins.

Bucalossi's jaunty characteristic piece arranged for wind quintet by Russell Denwood. Fun to play - it's the perfect concert 'lollipop'! Ernest Bucalossi (1863-1933) was a light-music composer remembered solely for this one enduring (and endearing) lollipop. Himself a London theatre conductor he was the second son of theatre conductor/composerProcida Bucalossi who migrated to London from Italy. Ernest studied at the Royal Academy of Music and in 1881 began his theatre career by deputising for his father. He went on to compose for a variety of theatrical purposes. Thejaunty characteristic piece is one of those pieces that perfectly exemplifies its title.

One Piano Four Hands.-One Piano Four Hands. Schubert’s Op. 51 is comprised of three Military Marches the first of these being one of the more popular pieces for piano four hands. It is has an instantly catchy theme an infectious sense of exuberance and Schubert’s characteristic quirkiness. This theme is hardly militaristic more a exagereted depiction of a soldier's march in its stiffness prim jollity and pomp. Some may hear it as a comic or satirical creation but Schubert was intending to express a more festive picture of a military march much like one in a parade. This exuberant piece is immense fun to play and a must have for Piano Duet players! Arranged for four-hands at the piano and edited byLouis Oesterle.
