12 Short Piano Solos-Composers first began writing character pieces in the Romantic period as a personal inward-looking form of musical expression on a smaller scale than sonatas of the Classical period. These new character pieces emulate this important art form and are carefully graded for students at the late elementary to early intermediate level. Some are bold in character while others are lyrical and introspective. These moods are suggested by each title. Titles: The Balance Beam - The Challenge - Gentle Ocean Waves - Gospel Sing - A Moment in Time - My Heart Sings - The Organ Grinder - Reflection - Sea Treasures - The Secret - Song of the Matador - Wind Chimes. Sketches from Nowhere is the second composition that Thomas Doss has written for brass band. The title was inspired by various images the composer saw in his mind’s eye while working on this piece: pictures of foreign places; pictures of the creation of our world. The main motif that weaves its way from the beginning to the end of the work is meant to parallel humanity’s great evolution: from its humble beginnings as mere stardust to the present day.

Violin 2 Coro II- The Missa in F of 1734 for two or four choirs is probably Pergolesi ’s most important work for choir and orchestra. The nickname 'Missa Romana' was added later in reference to a performance given in Rome during Pergolesi ’s lifetime. This Urtext edition presents the work for the first time in the four-choir version that Pergolesi wrote for the above mentioned performance in Rome. Choirs III and IV are reproduced in smaller type and are added to the version for double choir in order to intensify the overall sound. This allows the work to be performed not only with two choirs but also in the delightful enlarged version for fourchoirs. Rounding off the edition are an informative Foreword (Eng/Ger) and a Critical Commentary (Eng). First publication with choirs III and IV. Can be performed with both two or four choirs. Idiomatic well-presented Piano reduction. Full score performance material (BA8958) and vocal score (BA8958-90) available for sale.

The German composer Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) wrote his Academic Fesival Overture in the summer of 1880 together with the Tragic Overture. The occasion was the honorary degree which Brahms had received a year before from the University of Breslau. Initially Brahms had sent a thank-you note but he was expected to express his gratitude with a composition. The premiere took place on 4 January 1881 - conducted by the composer himself - in Breslau. For this sparkling work Brahms used various German student songs as a basis in an inventive way - and a little jestingly. Owing to the accessible development lyrical warmth humor and persuasiveness the Academic Festival Overtureis still a popular concert work. This transcription for concert band which has been written by Tohru Takahashi does justice to the original composition.

Complete Piano Sonatas IV- Volume IV of Scriabin ’s “ Complete Piano Sonatas ” unites Sonata No. 9 op. 68 (nicknamed “Black Mass” – but not by Scriabin ) and Sonata No. 10 op. 70. These two works originated virtually at the same time in 1911-13 and 1912-13 respectively. Christoph Flamm has given both sonatas a fundamentally fresh look in this new Urtext edition. Exploiting all the autograph sources including Scriabin ’s sketches and drafts he has arrived at surprising new readings. His foreword sheds informative light on the genesis and significance of these pieces; the many variants are documented in detail in the Critical Commentary. The higheditorial standards are complemented by spacious engraving and practical page-turns. - Scholarly-critical Urtext edition including the latest research findings. - All autograph sources consulted including sketches and drafts. - For students pianists and teachers. - Detailed foreword (Ger/Eng) and Critical Commentary (Eng).

New Urtext edition with clear and uncluttered engraving. Informative foreword (Eng/Cz/Ger) including a contribution by Smetana scholar Olga Mojžíšová. Includes a detailed Critical Commentary (Eng). Vltava (The Moldau) is Smetana ’s most famous and frequently performed tone poem. It was written between 20 November and 8 December 1874 but only in 1879-1880 with the completion of the entire cycle Má vlast did it appear in print when Urbánek issued it in full score and a version for Piano duet. Owing to the large number of misprints in the Urbánek first edition Hugh Macdonald has based his new editionon the autograph score with cross-references to the first edition and the composer’s own version for Piano duet. Conflicting readings in the sources are listed in the Critical Commentary along with a discussion of all editorial decisions. Version for Piano duet BA 9549.

In early 1729 Bach became director of the so-called »Scottish Collegium Musician« a music organization of students and local citizens.
