Euphonium - Baritone TC-Following the huge success of their instrumental method Look Listen & Learn Michiel Oldenkamp and Jaap Kastelein have focussed their attention on school bands and devised a completely new method that can be used in both instrumental lessons and class bands or wind ensembles. Learning Music Together is the new method for young wind players and percussionists aged eight and above. Learning Music Together has been developed in close collaboration with professionals from the class band world music schools and academies in the Netherlands and Germany. Learning Music Together combines instrumental lessons with a course for class band. The baritone lessons offer baritone -specific items such as new notes and technical exercises while at the same time supporting the learning of the class band with a focus on rhythm melodic structure and playing music together. The method consists of two volumes. Volume One introduces the first instrumental notes in unison and then develops part-playing with duets. Volume Two builds on the skills taught in the first volume and introduces pieces in three parts.In addition supplementary material is available on the extensive website e.g. demo- and accompaniment tracks for all pieces additional pieces of music (well-known songs) and video tutorials. Learning Music Together is logically structured and illustrated in a child-friendly way - a perfect combination for young musicians! In the comprehensive score there are useful tips and additional exercises to help train the students improve their aural training and promote playing together. Two parts are printed in the student books: high instruments – voices 1 and 2 low instruments – voices 1 and 3. The conductor can decide how to distribute these parts. Listening to the jubilee singers of yore and some of the terrific recordings by Alan Lomax of vocal groups spurred him to find old hymnals and songbooks in order to arrange tunes for the guitar. Give Me Jesus is a soulful number that ended up being somewhat inspired by the playing of John Fahey with down tempo strumming followed by more classic alternate bass picking. Roll De Ol' Chariot Along has a rollicking syncopated feel that never really stays in one place bouncing up and down the neck à la Revered Gary Davis. Lift Every Voice and Sing aka the Black National Anthem has a beautiful harmonically rich feel and the 6/8 tempo allows the guitarist a fair amount of room in which to maneuver. Also included is a spirited version of This Train Is Bound For Glory originally inspired by Big Bill Broonzy’s walking bass line an arrangement of A Closer Walk With Thee that taps into the feel of a New Orleans brass band funeral procession and a heavily swung and syncopated take on Rev.
