Pierre Lantier (1910-1998) won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1937 and is remembered for a variety of works most significantly his Sicilienne for Alto Saxophone and Piano. Lantier 's Sicilienne is particularly useful in learning elegance and a flowing musicality. The varying styles tempos dynamics and rhythms throughout create an appealing work to performers and listeners alike. The stylistic nuances of Lantier 's piece along with the evocative melodies make for a graceful work well worth performing as an intermediate to advanced level saxophonist.

Meditation on 'O come O come Immanuel'-The Advent hymn we all know today as O Come O Come Immanuel was arranged in its modern form by Thomas Helmore and published in Hymnal Noted in 1856. Both the words and melody however predate this version by centuries.The tune Veni Immanuel is taken from a 15th century processional of French Franciscan nuns part of the setting for the funeral hymn Libera Me . This arrangement aims to expand on the power and mystery of the original tune and will be most effective if the solo trumpet at the start and end of the piece can be placed away from the band maybe at the back of the auditorium.

Bach composed his oratorio for the Feast of the Ascension in Leipzig in 1735. Though this work has the duration of a cantata the choice of text places it among the oratorios. It combines the biblical account of the Ascension with chorales and free madrigal poems. As in other works which were composed during this same year (e.g. the Christmas Oratorio) Bach reveals a special fondness for colourful orchestration with two Flutes two Oboes threeTrumpets Timpani and Strings creating a splendid Baroque sound with a strikingly festive character. Harlequin was commissioned by and is dedicated to euphonium virtuoso David Childs. The piece takes as its inspiration the happy and sad masks which symbolise the Commedia dell'Arte (which features Harlequin as one of its main characters) and comprises two movements a slow modal ballad followed by a frenetic faster movement. Max Reger composed the present work in 1899 for the 'Schonberger Orgelalbum' which served as a means of funding the new organ in Schonberg im Taunus. Other renowned organ composers of the time also contributed works to this project such as Guilmant Rheinberger and Widor. Reger referred to his piece as a 'little work' that is 'intentionally not difficult' - yet he succeeded in creating a highly skillful piece that was hailed as a confirmation of Reger's artistry at the organ and enjoyed great popularity from the very start.

This set of studies for upper-intermediate/advanced Clarinet players is an absolute essential to master your speed technique and articulations. Each exercise is between one and two-pages long. Few directions are given in the book on how to practise these 14 exercises: the speed to use the aim of the exercise the explanation going with the adaptation among other comments. Retards et Appogiatures - Textes- As one of the fundamentals in the study of harmony particularly for Baroque music Henri Challan (1910-1977) provides an imperative aid to the understanding of Figured Bass. Challan a French composer and music educator was appointed Professor of Harmony at the Paris Conservatoire in 1936. He compiled 380 Figured Bass Exercises during 1960 after a considerable amount of time working in the field. With Challan 's experiences in mind 380 Figured Bass Exercises is very well-informed. Part A of the seventh volume provides 30 exercises in which the student can study retards and appoggiaturas in the contextof figured bass. Jean-Baptiste Bréval (1753–1823) was a member of the orchestra at the Paris Opéra and also a prolific composer. His works include concertos for cello string quartets comic operas and a violoncello tutor. However he is best-known for the Sonata in C major which has become a standard work for teaching purposes even in arrangements for other instruments. The two movements (Allegro and Rondo Grazioso) can also be performed independently from one another. This sonata belongs to the basic repertoire of every young cellist. Au Gré des Ondes reflects Dutilleux 's style in its atonality and modality use of pedal notes and subtle hints of the jazz style. Handel wrote the famous Dixit Dominus with the text of Psalm 109 during his time in Italy in c. 1707. Although he was only 22 years old the work already demonstrates his wide spectrum of compositional abilities which are later fully realized in his operas and oratorios. Central to this work are the six choral movements which – with their polyphonic structure – are closely related to German choral music of the 17th century. The first Urtext edition BA 4002 based on the Halle Handel Edition was published in 1960. At that time no critical commentary was published so that in cases of doubt the basis on which editorialdecisions were made was not officially recorded. A new complete edition volume (BA 10704/01) due to be published in 2013 will include a detailed foreword providing information on the genesis and the first performance of this work as well as information on the psalm on which this work is based and on performance practice. In addition several facsimiles pages will be included giving a view into the source material. The critical commentary will provide a detailed insight into all the available sources and how they have been passed down. This newly revised Urtext performing edition offers a thorough revision of this frequently-performed work and meets all the requisites of a scholarly-critical edition. Former readings in the old edition regarding a small number of pitches but mostly basso continuo figures and the underlying text have now been able to be amended on the basis of the new findings. In the new edition the work appears in nine movements – no longer eight – which reflects the composer's intentions. The new performance material is not compatible with the old one.
