In the most literal sense: a piece for an occasion. The actual occasion was Jan de Haan’s twentieth anniversary as a conductor of the top Dutch brass band “Soli Deo Gloria” (Leeuwarden). To mark the occasion the band commissioned the Belgian comopser Jan Van der Roost to create a surprise piece: without knowledge of the person being celebrated a suitable source of inspiration was sought for. After some thought the chorale-theme from Camille Saint-Saëns organ symphony was chosen a piece with which Jan de Haan has a special bond.Apart from this chorale Homage is also based on the names of notes taken from ‘Jan de Haan’ and ‘Soli Deo Gloria’ resulting in the tonerow: DEGAH. Both elements are combined together and form a grand climax towards the end of the piece when the whole band unites in the Saint Saëns’ theme.

Viola Coro II- The Missa in F of 1734 for two or four choirs is probably Pergolesi ’s most important work for choir and orchestra. The nickname 'Missa Romana' was added later in reference to a performance given in Rome during Pergolesi ’s lifetime. This Urtext edition presents the work for the first time in the four-choir version that Pergolesi wrote for the above mentioned performance in Rome. Choirs III and IV are reproduced in smaller type and are added to the version for double choir in order to intensify the overall sound. This allows the work to be performed not only with two choirs but also in the delightful enlarged version for fourchoirs. Rounding off the edition are an informative Foreword (Eng/Ger) and a Critical Commentary (Eng). First publication with choirs III and IV. Can be performed with both two or four choirs. Idiomatic well-presented Piano reduction. Full score performance material (BA8958) and vocal score (BA8958-90) available for sale.

Copland’s Piano Sonata is one of his finest works if not the most famous or popular. The concentration of expression and variety of atmosphere and mood stand out amongst his creations and in typical Copland fashion he manages to strike the balance between dry wit and seriousness. This sprightly free and expressive piece apart from the final movement which is like a clock winding down set for Solo Piano that is sure to entertain and please.

Mendelssohn’s setting of Psalm 98 was written in a few weeks to satisfy a commission in his new position as general music director of Prussia and was premiered by the Berlin Cathedral Choir on 1 January 1844. As he neither released the work forpublication nor produced a vocal score his psalm setting did not appear in print until after his death. For this edition the authoritative Mendelssohn specialist John Michael Cooper drew primarily on the autograph score with its many subsequent corrections and amendments. In this way it differs from many other editions which tend to treat theautograph as a subordinate source. Rounding off the edition are an informative Foreword and a detailed Critical Commentary. The Thieving Magpie - Overture-In the monumental overture to the opera La Gazza Ladra (The Thieving Magpie) Gioachino Rossini employs themes from the opera itself in order to prepare the audience for the material to come. The overture contains themes that stay long in the memory of the listener as well as spectacular use of the famous Rossini crescendo. This wonderful arrangement for concert band from Franco Cesarini retains all of La Gazza Ladra ’s original charm and is ideal as a concert opener.
