Motet for two four-part mixed choirs- Komm Jesu komm BWV 229 - Motet for two four-part mixed choirs In Bach’s voluminous output of music the motets form a small group of modest proportions particularly as compared to the 200 or so surviving cantatas. In historical perspective however the corpus of motets is especially distinguished being the only part of Bach’s vocal œuvre whose post-1750 tradition has remained unbroken to the present day. ette composition variée est basée sur l’indicatif de l’émission À la recherche de la Musique diffusée par la télévision nationale néerlandaise entre 1986 et 1988.

Modern Arrangements of Old Favourites-The compositions of George Gershwin have a special place in jazz music. Every professional jazz musician knows the Gershwin songs. Although composed long ago - in the first half of the previous century - they remain ever popular. Simply because of the genius of the melodies rhythms and texts the Gershwin tunes have transcended their original conception and are still extremely popular. In his own characteristic manner Rik Elings has arranged these Gershwin melodies in a contemporary and interesting fashion. Great Credo Mass- The Missa K.257 bears the non-authentic dating 1776 and was presumably composed at the end of 1776 or in the first half of 1777. Like K.262 (246a) it is designated in Leopold Mozart’s handwriting as a Missa longa on the cover page of an early composite manuscript containing the five masses in C major. K.257 is listed there as the last work. The designation “Missa longa” was intended to point out that this was an extensive full-scale mass. Normally it would have been called a Missa solemnis but Mozart for unknown reasons did not make use of this customary nomenclature. The name “Credo Mass” is taken from the acclamations of “Credo” that constantly interrupt thelike-named movement. The Mass is remarkable for its density of invention within the narrowest of confines. Further its instrumental accompaniment has an almost chamber-music quality that emerges time and again into almost symphonic proportions. for bassoon and concert band-Nicolaï Rimski-Korsakov disait du basson qu’il était « sénile et fourbe en Majeur souffrant et triste en mineur ».

The special occasion that Philip Sparke was honoured to write this piece for was the 200th anniversary of the Stadtmusik Bad Säckingen. Since Bad Säckingen is known as the ’Trompeterstadt’ or trumpeter city Sparke’s creative process was influenced by Joseph Victor Scheffel’s poem Der Trompeter von Säckingen (The Trumpeter from Säckingen) which is based on a true story. The overture starts with a majestic fanfare followed by a lively molto vivace. It is joined by a brilliant trumpet call in honour of the city’s famous resident.

In early 1729 Bach became director of the so-called »Scottish Collegium Musician« a music organization of students and local citizens. The remarkable results of this undertaking are the concertos for harpsichord. Today it is almost certain that practically all of these concertos were transcribed from concertos for melody instruments (mostly violin or oboe). The Concerto in F major BWV 1052 is the sixth of the harpsichord concertos contained in the autograph score that Bach wrote out in or around 1738 (Berlin Staatsbibliothek Mus. ms. Bach P 234). The initials at the end of the piece SDGl ('Soli Deo Gloria') form a pendant to the J.J. ('Jesus Juva') found at theopening of the D-minor Concerto BWV 1052. This indicates that BVW 1057 formed the final piece in this six-work opus the only authentic and self-contained collection of concertos we have from Bach apart from his presentation copy of the Brandenburg Concertos (1721). Like all the other concertos in this series BWV 1057 is an arrangement of an earlier work in this case the Fourth Brandenburg Concerto in G major (BWV 1049). Urtext of the New Bach Edition Full score & parts (BA5229) two-keyboard reduction (BA5229-90) and study score (TP410) format 22.5 x 16.5cm (all 6 concertos) available for sale
