Following on from the first books in the series ( Starter Duets Skilful Duets ) this collection contains longer pieces that are suitable for the more advanced player. Specifically tailored for each instrument Super Duets takes the player into new keys with new technical and musical challenges and contains pieces suitable for concert or recital. The series provides invaluable additional material to complement any teaching method. The early stages of learning any instrument are undoubtedly the most important. A good teacher is of course essential but it is also vital to have stimulating study material which complements your choice of teaching method and is carefully tailored to introduce learning and playing skills in a structured manner. In writing this collection Philip Sparke worked with many instrumental teachers to discover exactly what was required for each instrument to help players develop the full range of skills whilst still having fun. Each book of this collection is specifically tailored for the developing musician and focuses on study solos and duets aimed to improve specific technical andmusical demands of the instrument.

Für Violine und Orchester Op. 64- Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto op. 64 is a key work of the 19th century adhering to the classical style of Beethoven while pointing the way to the romantic ethos of Brahms. It has long been known that Mendelssohn performed the work with three soloists in succession: Ferdinand David who worked closely with the composer during its composition and played it at the première; the child prodigy' Joseph Joachim; and Hubert Léonard a young Belgian virtuoso about whom little is known. As proof sheets for the Violin Concerto in E minor were long considered lost it could be described as somewhat of a sensation when proofs for the soloviolin part resurfaced together with a letter from Mendelssohn to Léonard. The letter informs us that the composer invited Léonard to his home in Frankfurt in order to make his acquaintance. It was already known that Mendelssohn had given proof sheets to David; now we know that he also gave some to Léonard. The recently discovered proofs reveal how Léonard played the concerto with Mendelssohn on that memorable evening in February 1845. Besides containing bowing marks and fingering they also show how Léonard executed shifts of position and where he employed open strings. Furthermore modifications made to dynamic markings and additional legato bowing are shown. It is safe to assume that all of this was done with Mendelssohn's approval. That the young violinist made a positive impression on the composer is confirmed in the latter's correspondence following their joint performance. Mendelssohn is full of praise for Léonard's playing and offers to lend his support in finding employment in Germany. This revised edition of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (only the orchestral parts remain unchanged) includes a separate booklet on performance practice. The editor Clive Brown is an acknowledged expert on Romantic performance practice. - New source situation owing to recently rediscovered proofs - Revised Urtext edition - With a separate booklet on performance practice (BA9060) (Eng/Ger) - Full score in the revised early and late (popular) versions (BA9099)

Between 1996 and 2000 Bärenreiter published scholarly-critical editions of Beethoven 's Nine Symphonies edited by the first class musicologist Jonathan Del Mar. The editorial process was a huge undertaking because of the complex source situation regarding Beethoven 's Symphonies culminating in the Choral Symphony (No.9) which came down to the publisher in nearly 20 different sources. So it was not surprising that Bärenreiter's new Urtext edition caused a considerable stir in the music world. Since publication Del Mar's edition enjoys the unabashed praise of conductors performers and critics alike and has become the most widely used publication ofthe Beethoven Symphonies which can be heard not only every day in concert halls but also on CD recordings by John Eliot Gardiner David Zinman Jos van Immerseel and Claudio Abbado. Usually referred to as a sonata 1. X. 1905 is Janacek ’s most significant piece for the Piano. The work had a tumultuous history. It originally consisted of three movements inspired by the death of a Czech labourer shot by soldiers during a demonstration in Brno. Shortly after its première in 1906 Janacek destroyed the final movement and then following a private performance in Prague the other two movements as well. It was not until the celebrations for his 70th birthday that the pianist of the première found the courage to play the piece to the composer once again from her personal copy. Janacek then decided to publish thework after all. The musical text is based on the Complete Scholarly-Critical Edition of the Works of Leos Janacek and has been given practical fingering suggestions. - Detailed new preface by Jiri Zahradka (Czech Eng. Ger.). - Tried and tested fingerings. - Bärenreiter Urtext at the forefront of Janacek scholarship.
