He was fourty-four years old and the happiest man I ever knew.” The over-all title comes from Millay's verses: ... many a man is making friends with death even as I speak for lack of love alone. Bellum et Pax is a composition describing the two ancient concepts of ‘war’ and ‘peace.’ While this piece appears to be one single movement it consists of four sections that flow into one another. Mysterious and threatening tones lead the way into an epic battle between the chaos of war and enlightenment of peace. Peace triumphs but menacing bass notes at the end symbolize the constant presence and threat of war and violence in the world.

Bach ’s Christmas Oratorio composed in 1734 narrates the story of the birth of Jesus in a cycle of six cantatas with a text probably by Christian Friedrich Henrici (known as Picander) who provided several libretti for Bach during his Leipzig period. Like the St. Matthew and St. John Passions the Christmas Oratorio is narrated by an Evangelist and includes devices from Italian opera such as the recitative and aria. In writing this piece Gino Bergamini was inspired by the figure of Davy Crockett hunter and pioneer in the colonisation of the western part of North America. The piece is built entirely on the smooth succession of intriguing themes and characterised by sharp rhythms. The themes after a short elaboration with an expressive and meaningful style return in a finale with rich sonority to recreate the fascinating atmosphere of that mythical hero Davy Crockett.

Sinfonia dall' opera- Tancredi composed in 1813 is rarely performed in today’s opera houses however its overture or Sinfonia as it was called at the time is well-liked and has received regular performances over the years. This arrangement for concert band has been written so as to retain the original spirit of this immortal short composition one of Rossini’s favourites.

The Missa in F of 1734 for two or four choirs is probably Pergolesi's most important work for choir and orchestra. The nickname Missa Romana was added later in reference to a performance given in Rome during Pergolesi's lifetime. This Urtext edition presents the work for the first time in the four-choir version that Pergolesi wrote for the above mentioned performance in Rome. Choirs III and IV are reproduced in smaller type and are added to the version for double choir in order to intensify the overall sound. This allows the work to be performed not only with two choirs but also in the delightful enlarged version for four choirs. Rounding off the edition are an informative Foreword(Eng/Ger) and a Critical Commentary (Eng).
