Petite pièce très facile pour la harpe- French harpist and composer Henriette Renié (1875-1956) lived in poverty for much of her life. However this did not stop her from composing significant works for the Harp including Grand-Mère Raconte Une Histoire an easy piece for beginners of the instrument. Despite being a talented composer Renié lived at a time where fame and success was socially unacceptable for women. In 1940 Grand-Mère Raconte Une Histoire was published. As a easy piece this Renié work is suitable for beginners of the instrument includingdetailed performance directions and fingerings. For all beginner harpists Renié 's Grand-Mère Raconte Une Histoire is an exciting and varied addition to the repertoire.

Bériot's Concert No. 9 for Violin and Piano- Parisian violinist Georges Catherine (1872-1958) compiles an exciting collection for the Violin repertoire. The first solo from Bériot s Concerto No. 9 is clearly printed with a helpful key of unusual techniques. Charles Auguste de Bériot (1802-1870) was a Belgian violinist and composer. He composed a significant 10 concertos for the Violin which remain popular in the advanced violinists repertoire as well as many study books for the instrument. The Violin solo line of Concerto No. 9 makes use of extended techniques including harmonics bow techniques articulations and handpositions. Catherine s series First Solos extracted from the Classic Concertos provides essential access to significant repertoire of the Violin preparing advanced violinists for the major concertos.

Even though the ranges and rhythms are quite modest in this beautiful lyric piece for young bands there is a wealth of musicality to be learned and enjoyed. Delicate and sensitive in the beginning there is a logical ebb and flowto the music as itbuilds to a full ensemble climax then back to the quieter texture and harmonic shift at the end. Fantasy on Themes by Beethoven-A powerful work for the symphonic band Ode to the Spirit of Man is based on thematic material taken from the fourth movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and developed into a fantasy of kaleidoscopic nature. Theopening is a joyful expression of the spirit of freedom and is based on the composer's own themes derived from Beethoven's music. Throughout the work various themes from the symphony are interwoven including Alla Marcia Scherzo Andante maestoso and finally the uplifting Ode to Joy . Dur: 5:15

The first performance took place on 28th August 2009 at the Berlin Philharmonie given by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle. Orchestral parts are available on hire from thepublisher. The score is transposed. Crotales sound two octaves higher than written.

Caccini's Ave Maria is an exquisite setting of the traditional Latin text and its beauty and simplicity has led to performances by Andrea Bocelli Katherine Jenkins Hayley Westenra and many others. Here it has been arranged by Jonathan Wikeley for SATB choir and Piano accompaniment.

This work was commissioned by the Strover family for the Maggini Quartet on the occasion of Rosalind Strover’s 100th birthday. It was first performed by the MagginiQuartet on 5th November 2004 at Stoke-by-Nayland Country Club Essex.
