Composed between 1972-1975 Norgard's Symphony No.3 is an orchestral work in two movements. Score. Duration ca. 50 minutes. Symphony No. 3 (1972-1975) by Per Norgard. Per Norgard's third symphony commissioned by The Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra (conductor Herbert Blomstedt) was premiered in Copenhagen in 1976 and received wide attention. The work gives comprehensive expression to a new realm of musical experience which the composer began to explore toward the end of the 1960s. While the first period in Norgards production in the 1050s represents his personal interpretation of the Nordic music tradition - evidenced for example in his Piano Sonata No. 2 (1957) andConstellations for chamber orchestra (1958) - and the second period in the 1960s saw him working with serial techniques musical collage and a new sound-palette - especially in the orchestral works Iris (196-67) and Luna (1967) - with Voyage into the Golden Screen (1968) Norgard arrived at a new compositional technique based on the use of a special form of a so-called infinity series a principle of musical motion to be applied to all kinds of scales (chromatic diatonic et cetera). It is characteristic that that Norgard in the 1970s chose to cultivate diatonic infinity series already evident in the mythological opera Gilgamesh (1971-72). Thus the Symphony No. 3 begun directly after the opera combines the infinity series major and minor scales the partial series of natural harmonics and sub-harmonics (Norgards terminology) with rhythmic patterns based on the Golden Section (the Golden Mean) in a nexus of synchronous yet disparate elements which serve the composers vision of musical coherence.. The works which followed the symphony - the operas Siddharta (1975-79) and The Divine Circus (1981-82) and Symphony No. 4 (1981) - usher a new

For Flute and Piano- Wilhelm Popp studied with the great Louis Drouet in the 1850s and wrote many charming works for the flute this among them. Susan Milan acclaimed soloist and teacher has edited this elegant edition. Susan Milan writes: 'I discovered the charming Popp Sonatinas Op. 388 while researching 19th century flute repertoire in the British Museum Library. They were first published in Hamburg in 1888. These beautifully crafted works are all without exception a delight to play and suitable for a broad level of player. They are a lovely example of Classical style and detailed in a way that makes them a joy to perform and as they are less than 10 minutes long they are aperfect addition to a short recital programme. In editing the Sonatinas I have tidied some of the articulation making the flute part consistent. Discrepancies between markings in the flute and piano part have been corrected. I have occasionally added some slurs where I feel the lyrical nature of a section might be enhanced shown as 'dotted' slurs. Where staccati appear to be missing I have added them. I have not on the whole added expression marks. I have not changed or removed original markings.'

Portraits honours six women of talent dedication and exceptional bravery. In the case of Veronica Guerin and Anna Politkovskaya the ultimate price was paid in their search for truth. Despite looking brutality in the eye and facing corrupted minds and souls yielding was never an option. Instead they pushed on. Portraits aims to remind us of their goal and to prolong their voices.

Per Nørgård 's Gennem Torne / Through Thorns (2003) Harp Concerto No. 2 - Passage for Harp Solo with Flute Clarinet and String Quartet. Premiered by Tine Rehling (Harp) and the Esbjerg Ensemble conducted by Kaisa Roose at the Concert Hall of the Western Jutland Academy of Music Esbjerg 28th January 2004. Programme Note THROUGH THORNS has a duration of about 20 minutes in one continuous movement thus the subtitle passage. The work is scored for harp solo flute clarinet and string quartet. The title is borrowed from the lines from an old Virgin Mary Hymn: Mary wanders through thorns a hymn which ends with the following line: then roses grew forth amongst thethorns. I only came across the poem after finishing the composition the passage of which is a journey of sometimes dramatic events concluding with a rose-blooming as does the hymn. For THROUGH THORNS to borrow its title from a Virgin Mary Hymn has to do with the musical material and current of the piece which brings motives from an earlier choral piece of mine FLOS UT ROSA (Latin for a flower like a rose) and the rose in question is of course the one which grew forth when the Virgin Mary gave birth to the Infant Jesus in a hitherto unheard-of fashion a NOVA GENITURA (new birth) which is the title of another work of mine that also derives its material from my original rose-melody from 1975. THROUGH THORNS is dedicated to Tine Rehling and together with her I have tried to expand the sonorities of the harp by exploring existing techniques and their more remote regions in order to gain access to new territory and new soundscaoes as realised by the constantly experimentally-minded and virtuoso player. Jordens Vej for SA Choir and Organ by Per Norgard (1981). Text by Ole Sarvig. Manuscript copy. Programme note When in 1975 I had finished composing my 3rd Symphony (begun in 1973) I wrote three simple melodies for two psalm texts by Ole Sarvig: The Year and Choral Hymn. These three tunes were derived from the same material as the second movement of the 3rd Symphony and could be harmonized together in several different tempo relationships at the same time - like fractals - which inspired me to write several choral and instrumental works in the following decade based onthese melodies: Frost Psalm Winter Cantata Cantica a.o. One of these Sarvig melodies' is now in the Danish Hymnbook nr. 720 under the title 'aret'(The Year). Jordens vej for choir and organ was the basis of the work Korsalme (1982) for mixed choir and instruments (ad lib.). Per Norgard
