Stabat Mater Hob.XX bis Oratorio (funeral music) versions from 1767 and 1803 The new scholarly critical edition of Joseph Haydn's Stabat Mater (1767) is published in Henle's complete edition of Haydn's works. This edition is the first to come as close as possible to the lost original and has been compiled using all currently available sources. The score has been fully amended in its original orchestration for two oboes or English horn strings and organ. At a later performance of this work probably in 1803 Haydn attempted to accommodate the intervening changes in musical taste. According to the composer's request and under his supervision SigismundNeukomm enlarged the wind orchestration by adding a flute two clarinets two bassoons two French horns trumpets and timpani. The popular Swedish children's series Pippi Långstrump (Pippi Longstocking) is about an exceedingly strong and strong-willed little girl with red braids - who is the brainchild of Astrid Lindgren. This series has been broadcasted in many countries. I arranged its cheerful theme tune in samba style. Even with the new rhythm the original song is still very recognizable. In the exuberant samba style the percussion plays an important role. Within the Långstrump Samba this is especially clear in the ad libitum percussion solo halfway through the arrangement. The solo can go on as long as desired and offers plenty of freedom because of the free choice of the instruments used.

He seems to have asked his friend Joseph Haydn to write a festive thankoffering in the form of a Mass for the famous pilgrimage church of Mariazell in Styria. Haydn began the work in 1782 and recently the original parts to the Missa Cellensis were found in the organ loft of the splendid baroque church at Mariazell. Haydn's Mariazellermesse has always been one of his most popular works. Pavane for a Dead Princess- Maurice Ravel was only 24 when his piano solo 'Pavane Pour une Infante Defunte ' which translated means Pavane for a dead princess became the rage of the drawing rooms and salons of Paris in 1899 but the work already held the unmistakable stamp of his style. Ravel orchestrated the work in 1910. Jerry Brubaker presents this lovely work in a Concert band setting with all of the lush melodies and harmonies of the original work but with simplified ranges and a comfortable key. A marvelous choice for a truly beautiful piece of impressionistic literature!
