The Organ part is manageable for the non-professional organist and can be played on a small or medium-sized instrument. Harlequin was commissioned by and is dedicated to euphonium virtuoso David Childs.The piece takes its inspiration from the happy and sad masks that symbolise the Commedia dell?Arte (which features Harlequin as one of its main characters) and comprises of two movements a slow modal ballad followed by a frenetic faster movement. Based on the hymn tune Dear Lord and Father of Mankind-Sir Hubert Parry (1848-1918) is mostly remembered for the marvellous melodies of his hymn tunes such as Jerusalem and Repton. The latter first appeared in Parry’s oratorio Judith and was adapted as a hymn tune after the composer’s death. This fantastic cornet solo will give your section leader a real chance to shine.

Jesu bleibet meine Freude from Cantata 147-Bach’s appointment as the Cantor at Leipzig’s Thomaskirche in 1723 required him to produce a new cantata for every Sunday service. Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring is taken from his Cantata No.147 and is unusually elaborate treated more like an aria than a chorale. It is perhaps the best-loved cantata movement from Bach’s entire output and is a certain crowd pleaser for your concert programme.

These songs were originally written for unaccompanied chorus. Later an orchestral accompaniment was added and a piano reduction has been included for rehearsal purposes when preparing the choir for a performance with the orchestra. Le Merle de roche- Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) is known for his unique composition style. Incorporating complex rhythms harmony melodies and his passion for ornithology his Catalogue D'Oiseaux for Piano is no exception to the composer's popular distinctive style. Messiaen became fascinated by birdsong from an early age however it wasn't until the 1950s that he took his passion to a new level incorporating birdsong into all of his compositions. Catalogue D'Oiseaux composed in 1958 comprises thirteen movements each depicting a specific bird. The sixth volume contains movement ten; The Rock Thrush. Catalogue D'Oiseaux is essential to all advanced pianists seeking to expand and vary their repertoire.

Camille Saint-Saëns’ The Carnival of the Animals is one of his most popular works altogether. Yet during his lifetime he refused to publish this orchestral piece for fear it would damage his reputation as a serious-minded musician. Now Jennifer Seubel and Sally Beck the flautists of “Duo Noble” have arranged this famous work for two flutes. The transformation of the major instruments timbres and melodies of the orchestral version into solely two flute parts posed a special challenge. The results exploit the full tonal spectrum of the flute. The arrangement offers several alternatives to expand the range of sound: for example a piccolo can be substitutedfor either flute part in No. 2 Poules et coqs and for the first flute in No. 7 Aquarium.
