This musical fairy tale takes place during the middle ages in England at the court of King Arthur and his knights of the round table. Bert Appermont wanted to cast knights castles and princesses as the lead role and let young bands and smaller/incomplete ensembles enjoy this rich fantasy.

This music sounds as if it came straight off the cinema screen. However there’s no movie for this fantastic score! Just like EVERY good film score this work also includes moving melodies fast virtuoso passages and last but not least a romantic love theme. The instrumentation takes into account that a group may not be complete and this means that the piece can be played by practically every orchestra. Highly recommended for concerts and competitions.

In completion of the first part (Hortus Musicus 50 now out of print) this second part to the ' Music To The Midsummer Night's Dream ' contains all the remaining four-part instrumental pieces from Henry Purcell 's opera 'The Fairy Queen' (1692). Similar to the pieces in the first part the composer wrote them for performance by Strings but they can also be played by Wind Instruments only (in particular wood-wind) or with string and wind instruments mixed and also with one or several instruments to a part. The pieces were put in such an order that they again present a small self-contained suite. The titles to the several numbers which arepartly mentioned more exactly in this book indicate their place in the above named opera by Purcell . They elucidate at the same time the character of the various pieces. Thus No.1 Air (Second Music) is originally a (second) introductory piece of music for the opera which still precedes the actual Overture. No.2 Jig No.5 Air and No.8 Air are instrumental postludes to the first fourth and second acts of the opera respectively whereas No.4 'Dance for the Followers of Night' No.6 'Dance for the Green Men' and No.7 'Monkeys' Dance' present a motley picture of the operatic construction which provided a great number of allegoric persons and figures. From a purely musical point of view this second part too of the ' Music To The Midsummer Night's Dream ' contains gems of old instrumental music. May this present book help to gain new friends for the noble art of the great Old-English composer.

Cantata No.211: Schweigt Stille Plaudert Nicht (Be quiet chatter not) BWV 211. The Coffee Cantata (BA 10211) and the Peasant Cantata (BA 10212) both on librettos by Picander are among the best-known and most frequently performed of Bach ’s secular cantatas. Written in or around 1733 the Coffee Cantata deals humorously with the importance of the newly fashionable beverage. This is demonstrated in the Soprano aria “Ah how sweet the coffee tastes lovelier than a thousand kisses milder than Muscatel”. Both cantatas reveal Bach ’s mastery in their unusual subject-matter formal design and musicalworkmanship. The work contains one large construction with different high points whereby the main theme is varied or orchestrated each time in one way or another finally ending in an impressive finale.

Bert Appermont composed Song for Sakiko during a stay in the cosmopolitan metropolis of Tokyo. “Sakiko” roughly translated means “flower child” and is associated with a dreamy poetic atmosphere. Appermont used these associations as a starting point while composing. Song for Sakiko starts with a very lyrical theme based on a minor third that forms the basis for the entire work. A second theme builds up to the grand finale which repeats the theme but in a major key and the music slowly fades away like ripples on a pond as both themes can be heard dissipating into nothingness.
