The combination of Flute and Guitar is becoming increasingly popular among music school pupils and concert performers. This publication From Renaissance To Ragtime expands the fairly narrow repertoire for this combination of instruments to include arrangements of famous compositions such as variations on the famous English Renaissance song Greensleeves famous melodies by Johann Sebastian Bach ( Air Siciliana Badinerie ) the popular Minuet by Luigi Boccherini Chopin 's virtuoso Variations on a Theme of Rossini and Scott Joplin 's popular ragtime tune The Entertainer (familiar from the film The Sting). Magnificat and Nunc dimittis- The present 'Evening Service' is one of the few works in which Pucell sets to music portions of the liturgy whereas most of the church music of the Master consists of anthems i.e. cantata-like compositions with biblical text. The alternative between chorus (full) and soloists (verse) so characteristic of this composition may if necessary be replaced by contrasting large and small chorus. The south-western US state of Arizona has more than its fair share of stunning landscapes natural phenomena and National Monuments. Best known is the Grand Canyon but there are also numerous deserts a petrified forest extinct volcanoes and the huge Sunset Crater. Not surprisingly it has featured as the backdrop to many Western movies.The Painted Desert is a narrow crescent-shaped arc about 160 miles long which begins near the Grand Canyon and varies in width from 10 to 35 miles. It is largely void of vegetation and years of erosion by wind and rain have exposed sedimentary layers of rock up to 250 million years old. Chemical differences in the various layers result in aneffect not unlike a multicoloured layer cake with contrasting hues of red orange and pink blue grey and lavender creating a silent and barren landscape which looks like it has been hand-painted. As with much of the planet’s stunning landscapes all the observer can do is stand and stare.

Handel wrote the famous Dixit Dominus with the text of Psalm 109 during his time in Italy in c. 1707. Although he was only 22 years old the work already demonstrates his wide spectrum of compositional abilities which are later fully realized in his operas and oratorios. Central to this work are the six choral movements which – with their polyphonic structure – are closely related to German choral music of the 17th century. The first Urtext edition BA 4002 based on the Halle Handel Edition was published in 1960. At that time no critical commentary was published so that in cases of doubt the basis on which editorialdecisions were made was not officially recorded. A new complete edition volume (BA 10704/01) due to be published in 2013 will include a detailed foreword providing information on the genesis and the first performance of this work as well as information on the psalm on which this work is based and on performance practice. In addition several facsimiles pages will be included giving a view into the source material. The critical commentary will provide a detailed insight into all the available sources and how they have been passed down. This newly revised Urtext performing edition offers a thorough revision of this frequently-performed work and meets all the requisites of a scholarly-critical edition. Former readings in the old edition regarding a small number of pitches but mostly basso continuo figures and the underlying text have now been able to be amended on the basis of the new findings. In the new edition the work appears in nine movements – no longer eight – which reflects the composer's intentions. The new performance material is not compatible with the old one. The Short-toed Lark and the Cetti's Warbler- Catalogue D'Oiseaux by Olivier Messiaen is a set of 7 books with 13 pieces for Piano composed between 1956 and 1958. Each volume refers to a special bird and to the region where the bird is typically from in France. The piece not only describes the bird it also depicts its surroundings such as other birds the landscape of its area the colours and the temperature. The first one the Short-Toed Lark represents the wilderness of Provence and the Cetti's Warbler the Charente area. The interpretation of these pieces requires a strong level in Piano (upper advanced) due to some complex technique requirement. Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) was a French organist and composer who was passionate about Ornithology and one of the most important composers of his century. Inspired by Japanese music he had a very special way of composing and his work can be identified by its complexity its diatonic aspect its harmony with limited transposition its colour and its additive rhythms. He composed many works related to ornithology and birdsong including the 'Treatise on Rhythm Colour and Ornithology' in 7 volumes.

Moon River was composed by Henry Mancini with lyrics written by Johnny Mercer and received an Academy Award for Best Original Song for its first performance by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. Mercer and Mancini wrote the song for Audrey Hepburn to fit her vocal range. Initially the lyrics started 'I'm Holly like I want to be / like Holly on a tree back home ...'; however they were later changed to fit the theme of the film Breakfast at Tiffany's.

The Piano score of the world famous Stabat Mater based on Dvorak 's original Piano version was edited for publication by Jan Kachlík and Miroslav Srnka. As far as possible the urtext edition makes use of Dvorak 's distinctive Piano stylisation as surviving in his own first sketch of the work from 1876. This sketch as it turned out once this source had become accessible is in fact a complete seven-movement Piano version with all solo and choral parts. The degree to which this source has been developed and its relative completeness suggest that the composer had originally been forced to resign himself to a performance of the workonly with soloists choir and Piano. In the years 1876-1877 however Dvorak 's career evidently took a turn for the better as he found himself increasingly in greater demand. He expanded the cantata by a further three movements and later orchestrated the entire work. This edition serves on the one hand as a legitimate Piano reduction of the existing edition of the final orchestral version and on the other together with the revision commentary and facsimile appendices it also provides an overall picture of the original Piano version for the first time - in particular the seven movements from 1876. In addition to this Piano score the study score (H2268) is also available for sale and the Orchestral score and complete Orchestral parts are available for hire.

Country Scenes takes us back to the early English settlements on the American east coast. The opening section Daybreak depicts daybreak in a small village where people go about their daily business. In the second movement Procession we hear a stately and elaborate funeral march that symbolises the intertwining of religion with everyday life. The closing section Village Dance which is written in rondo form brings the lively atmosphere of a village festival to life.

Scherzo Op.48 is a really lyrical piece for Wind Quintet (Flute Oboe Clarinet Bassoon Horn) which lasts around 2 minutes 30 seconds. The work starts Allegro Vivo with the main theme and some variations of this theme by each instrument then appear to end up on a final Animando. It reminds of music played to hold suspense during movies. This restless piece requires a good mastering of breathing techniques. This book features score and parts. Eugène Bozza won different prizes at the Conservatoire de Paris such as the First Prizes for the Violin conducting and composition as well as the GrandPrix de Rome. He composed several operas chamber works and ballets among others.
