The court organist Antonio de Cabezón (ca. 1510-1566) who was appointed to Queen Isabella’s court chapel in Toledo at the young age of 16 was rightly regarded by his contemporaries as the leading Spanish organist and keyboard player of the 16th century. His hymns and versets are based on short decorated harmonisations of the psalm tones. In the tientos the transformation from vocal motet style to a style of writing suitable for keyboard instruments is perfectly executed. This Urtext edition contains a selection of Cabezon's best known works and consists of four volumes. It has been prepared by two editors working at Portuguese and Spanishuniversities who are both leading scholars of the works of Cabezón and reflects the latest research findings.

Between 1996 and 2000 Bärenreiter published scholarly-critical editions of Beethoven's Nine Symphonies edited by the first class musicologist Jonathan Del Mar. The editorial process was a huge undertaking because of the complex source situation regarding Beethoven's Symphonies culminating in the Choral Symphony (No.9) which came down to us in nearly 20 different sources. So it was not surprising that Bärenreiter's new Urtext edition caused a considerable stir in the music world. The composer soon became intolerant to the requests of the French “Grand Opéra” as he considered them too restrictive and cunning. “I’ll be very happy when I have finished I vespri siciliani . An opera at the Opéra is as tiring as killing a bull. Five hours of music?…Hauf!” Verdi declared. Following the first performance the French composer Hector Berlioz wrote in the “Journal des Débats” an article that read “We have to admit that in I vespri siciliani the penetrating intensity of the melodic expression the sumptuous variety of theinstrumentation the fullness the poetical sonority of the whole the warm vivacity that shines everywhere and the passionate strength although slow in disclosing (a characteristic feature of Verdi’s talent) give the entire work a mark of greatness a sort of majestic sovereignty more underlined than in Verdi’s previous theatre productions.”

as performed by K3-There are many boy bands who are popular around the World but in contrast K3 are a very popular Flemish/Dutch girl band who inspire (not only) young audiences with their ‘fun pop’. In 2009 their single MaMaSé! topped the charts in Belgium and Holland. The melody of this song is catchy the rhythm stirring and the words easy to remember. A real favourite!

Triple Concerto- In Beethoven ’s Triple Concerto a Piano trio provides the soloists – a first in the history of music. Beethoven ’s treatment of the trio is pioneering: he does not apply a typical Piano trio setting in contrast to the orchestra but varies his treatment of the solo parts allowing each instrument to play alone with the Orchestra (particularly the Cello) using two solo instruments together in ever new combinations and finally bringing together all three instruments with the Orchestra. Beethoven weaves a complex web – the orchestral Piano Violin and Cello voices interplaying and entwining – and he produces a truemasterpiece. Bärenreiter’s new Urtext edition of Beethoven ’s Triple Concerto is a completely fresh revision of this warm and beautiful showpiece. Errors abounded in all previous editions but with the assistance of three newly-discovered sources editor Jonathan Del Mar has cleaned up the text corrected wrong notes and rhythms and (for the first time since 1807) presented the work in a way that a musician of Beethoven ’s day might have recognized with all necessary information for directing the piece included in the solo Piano part. Another wonderful Choral work from the superb Vaughan Williams catalogue. This piece for SATB choir with solos and divisions and organ accompaniment is set to a 17th Century text by George Wither.

The Ketchup Song-The Ketchup Song was a big 2002 summer hit for the Munoz sisters. The band is made up of three sisters Lol Lucia and Pilar who are the daughters of a famous Spanish flamenco musician called Tomate (hence Ketchup!). This fabulous arrangement will bring a taste of summer on the Costa to any concert.

Thomas Doss was so touched by a poem she wrote he decided to set it to music. The poem and the music describe the world from a child’s perspective a child that has grown up with war and tries to express things she cannot yet fully understand.
