Based on the Complete Edition of the Works of Antonín Dvo ák volume IV/9. Composed in 1878 during the period when Antonín Dvo ák was beginning to become famous the String Sextet was Dvo ák 's first work to be premiered abroad and was given during a private event at the home of Joseph Joachim in Berlin in 1879. The Czech folk spirit is evident in the Sextet enriched by Dvo ák 's masterful compositional style with rich harmonies and melodies which resulted in this being the first of his chamber works to win international acclaim. This edition is based on the autograph copy as well as the first printed edition of 1879.

The setting of Psalm no. 42 op. 42 “Wie der Hirsch schreit nach frischem Wasser” (“As the hart pants after the waterbrooks”) for soloists mixed choir and full orchestra dates back to 1837. The well-known Mendelssohn specialist John Michael Cooper has evaluated the first printed edition of the score prepared by the composer himself as well as taking all other important sources into account.
