Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy completed his first oratorio – St. Paul Op.36 – in 1836 at the age of twenty-seven. The first version which was premiered on 22 May 1836 was then extensively revised by the composer. This second version which at the same time served as the basis for the published version was premiered as early as October that year in Birmingham. The acclaim with which the oratorio was received was exceptional. Within eighteen months of completing the score Mendelssohn was able to list fifty performances of the work. Robert Schumann praised the work effusively and even Richard Wagner who later denigrated Mendelssohn was full of admiration. Today St. Paul belongs to the core repertoire of sacred choral music. This Urtext edition of the oratorio edited by the internationally-recognised Mendelssohn scholar Michael Cooper is based on all critical sources. As well as the principal version of the work the score also includes for the first time numbers which were composed for the first version and subsequently removed. This gives not only an insight into the history of the composition of the work but also with the complete performing material into the performance of the original version. Symphony No. 2-Composer Philip Sparke had been attracted by the charming city of Savannah ever since his first visit there. It was therefore a delight to be asked to write a piece to mark this significant anniversary and at the same time honour America’s first ‘planned’ city and its fascinating history.

Between 1996 and 2000 Bärenreiter published scholarly-critical editions of Beethoven 's Nine Symphonies edited by the first class musicologist Jonathan Del Mar. The editorial process was a huge undertaking because of the complex source situation regarding Beethoven's Symphonies culminating in the Choral Symphony (No.9) which came down to us in nearly 20 different sources. So it was not surprising that Bärenreiter's new Urtext edition caused a considerable stir in the music world. Since publication Del Mar's edition enjoys the unabashed praise of conductors performers and critics alike and has become the most widely used publication of theBeethoven Symphonies which can be heard not only every day in concert halls but also on CD recordings by John Eliot Gardiner David Zinman Jos van Immerseel and Claudio Abbado. Tout commence par une description de l’aurore en haute mer ( Sunrise at Sea ) ; l’océan s’éveille doucement ( The Ocean Awakes ). La musique est aérienne ; la courbe mélodique des bois s’élève au-dessus des couleurs brillantes des cuivres. L’œuvre croît en intensité et culmine avec le lever du soleil. Dans la lumière du jour l’horizon lointain s’étale comme un tapis infini. La croisière s’annonce sous les meilleurs hospices. La mer est calme mais le calme est trompeur. Le bateau est bercé puis sérieusement chahuté par les vagues.Une fois la sérénité retrouvée le yacht poursuit son itinéraire. Le deuxième mouvement amorce le chemin du retour ( Homeward Bound ). Les conditions de navigation sont idéales. Le bateau fend délicatement les vagues chatoyantes. Mais la météo est changeante ; un vent frais souffle dans les voiles. Le yacht est à la merci du vent et des vagues. Une brève accalmie déchire le ciel mais le vent se relève et se fait de plus en plus fort. Les embruns glacent notre visage ( Spindrift ). Le bateau menace de chavirer. Nous réussissons à réorienter les voiles et profitons du grand vent pour effectuer un retour particulièrement grisant !

Yanomamo vividly tells of the destruction of the Amazon Rainforest and its effect on the Yanomamo the oldest Indian tribe living there. They lead a way of life in harmony with nature which undisturbed would survive with the forest indefinitely. However their existence and that of millions of animals and plant species is threatened by the arrival of outsiders who assume that the forest soil is permanently rich and that once the trees are cleared the land will be very productive. But after two years no crops will grow because the richness of the jungle is in thetrees not in the soil. The delicate balance of nature is being systematically removed and soon the rainforests which are crucial to the world's eco-system will disappear together with the Indians and the wildlife. Is there the time or the will to save them? Yanomamo was filmed as Song Of The Forest and shown in Channel 4's Fragile Earth series narrated by Sting. Point commun à toutes ces formations : les cuivres très appréciés dans la région. L’idée de passer commande d’une marche solennelle est née sous l’impulsion de Luc Vleugels bourgmestre de la commune. Le compositeur devait se conformer à une seule exigence : créer une œuvre accessible aux douze formations musicales de la commune.Dès lespremières mesures le style est majestueux. Le thème principal est introduit par les registres médium et le climat musical se coule dans une facture noble. La ligne mélodique du trio est plus lyrique offrant un contraste d’atmosphère avec le final pétillant et imposant parfaitement à la hauteur de l’intérêt de l’événement : la célébration d’un millénaire.
