1. Choir 1. Violin- Version of 1736 (final version) Bach ’s St. Matthew Passion passed through several stages in its progress towards its final form stages that today cannot be completely reconstructed. It may be taken as certain that the work was performed on Good Friday 1729 in St. Thomas’s Church Leipzig in a version of which the copy made by Bach ’s son-in-law Johann Christoph Altnickol gives us an approximate idea. There is no earlier extant autograph score than that of the later version which may probably be dated 1736 and on which the present edition is based. - Study score format 22.5 x 16.5cm - Urtext of the New Bach Edition -Full score performance material (BA5038) vocal score (BA5038-90) and study score (TP196) available for sale

This substantial work by Jan de Haan explores the many tonal qualities of the brass band. Following a quiet opening theme based on Phrygian tonality the band bursts into life with a massive climax. Following a jolly second theme characterised by large interval jumps peace and quiet is again restored. Both themes are developed with many poignant solo figures until we reach a resounding fortissimo climax with the solo cornet performing the first theme from the back of the auditorium. A spectacular concert work containing all the elements that bring out the best in brass band sound.

Yellowstone Choral was inspired by the marvellous landscapes of the Yellowstone National Park in the United States. The choral comprises three choral phrases that alternate throughout the work. The beginning is lightly orchestrated with an oboe solo but more instruments gradually join in before the second phrase of the choral is introduced. The third phrase does not appear so quickly and when it does it is introduced by horns and trombones before building up to the climax of the choral where the trumpet takes the upper hand. After this the choral gradually fades away with the first and second phrases appearing just a few more times. The choral ends as it began with a slowly ebbing orchestration.

Motet for five-part mixed choir- All of Bach ’s six authenticated motets were written between 1723 and 1727 for St Thomas’ Church Leipzig where Bach was appointed as director of music in 1723. During this period Bach composed most of his cantatas and it seems likely that for ordinary Sunday services he used existing motets from the seventeenth century tradition reserving his own motet compositions for special occasions. Four of his six motets were written for the funeral services of prominent members of the St Thomas’ congregation. Jesu Meine Freude (BWV 227) the longest most musically complex and earliest of the six was written in 1723 for the funeralof Johanna Maria Käsin the wife of Leipzig’s postmaster. Jesu Meine Freude BWV 227 is a beautifully constructed motet for five-part mixed choir by J.S. Bach . This Urtext edition provides you with a clear and accurate realisation of the composer’s original intentions and includes thoroughly detailed editorial markings and suggestions as edited by Konrad Ameln. The first movement of this work an Allegretto begins with a fanfare-like opening. After a number of other melody lines a reprise of the beginning follows which ends in a cadenza for the soloist. Movement two titled Rituel is characterized by interplay between the soloist and the band within a stately melody. In the final movement the theme of the first movement’s opening returns. As the indication ‘alla marcia’ of the last movement suggests this Allegro Giocoso contains march-like music that guarantees a lively conclusion. With Concertino Kees Schoonenbeek has written an appealing work that is very suitable for a beginner soloist. It is also available for trumpet andpiano.

Ballet in 1 Act and 5 Scenes-In 1941 Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera was commissioned to write a Ballet comprising One Act and Five scenes that was based on and would depict pastoral life in Argentina. He closely based his score on the great epic poem Martín Fierro by Jose Hernandez which tells the story of the Argentinean cowboys or Gaucho — nomadic and heroic figures who are the subject of much of the country's folklore. The story tells of a city boy who watches and falls in love with a country maiden. Despite initial contempt for him her feelings turn to admiration as he demonstrates he can perform the rough and difficult work and proves his skill in taming wild horses. Estancia is set over the passage of a single day: dawn morning afternoon night and dawn. Ginastera has not only captured the rhythms of life on a Estancia or ranch but also provided an insight into the gaucho's now diminished way of life. This volume contains a fabulous Piano reduction of the Full Ballet score.
