It was later performed again for the birthday of Duke Ernst August of Saxony-Weimar (the co-regent of Duke Wilhelm Ernst). Bach's score employs taut musical forms; noteworthy - and entirely characteristic of Bach's early style - is the dominant role of the continuo in recitatives and arias. (The way the pieces are numbered which the composer verifiably accepted however does not correspond to their actual chronological order - they were in fact written in reverse order so that Puppets III came first whilePuppets I is the latest in the series.) All three books of Puppets which emerged between the years 1912 and 1925 and despite their title differ from one another in their aesthetic approaches and progressive maturity are published by EditioBärenreiter in new revised urtext editions edited by Ales Brezina. It lasts for around 5 minutes. Eugène Bourdeau (1850-1925) was a professor at the Paris Conservatoire. He composed other pieces for Bassoon such as the 'Second solo' or the '30 Exercises'.
