This work by Spanish composer and conductor Teo Aparicio Barberán is a fantasy based on typical Spanish music. It starts with an exquisite seguidilla with a compelling rhythm and continues with a magnificent and exotic Andalusianromance . We are then treated to a dash of Fandango and the piece ends with a Mediterranean Copla . This is the perfect challenge for musicians who love Spanish music and style.

In completion of the first part (Hortus Musicus 50 now out of print) this second part to the ' Music To The Midsummer Night's Dream ' contains all the remaining four-part instrumental pieces from Henry Purcell 's opera 'The Fairy Queen' (1692). Similar to the pieces in the first part the composer wrote them for performance by Strings but they can also be played by Wind Instruments only (in particular wood-wind) or with string and wind instruments mixed and also with one or several instruments to a part. The pieces were put in such an order that they again present a small self-contained suite. The titles to the several numbers which arepartly mentioned more exactly in this book indicate their place in the above named opera by Purcell . They elucidate at the same time the character of the various pieces. Thus No.1 Air (Second Music) is originally a (second) introductory piece of music for the opera which still precedes the actual Overture. No.2 Jig No.5 Air and No.8 Air are instrumental postludes to the first fourth and second acts of the opera respectively whereas No.4 'Dance for the Followers of Night' No.6 'Dance for the Green Men' and No.7 'Monkeys' Dance' present a motley picture of the operatic construction which provided a great number of allegoric persons and figures. From a purely musical point of view this second part too of the ' Music To The Midsummer Night's Dream ' contains gems of old instrumental music. May this present book help to gain new friends for the noble art of the great Old-English composer.

Nine Amen and Halleluja Movements- Between 1728 and 1747 Handel composed these nine two-part movements for soprano and instrumental bass. Though speculation exists the occasion for which the pieces were composed as well as the exact date of their composition remain unknown. The soprano sings short liturgical phrases such as “Amen” “Allelujah” “Alleluja amen” or “Amen alleluia”. The editor has supplied a text for the movement HWV 275 which until now has for reasons unknown been without text. The Amen and Hallelujah movements are in easy keys (using up to one sharp or two flats) and the modulations rarely move to harmonically distant tonal areas. Handel figured the bassline very detailed which playsmostly an accompanying supportive role imitating the voice in a few places. The vocal part is distinguished by the repetition of motives by repeated notes but also by short or extended coloratura. Presumably these movements were intended for use in teaching. Today these short movements of between 25 and 76 bars lend themselves well to use in church services. Based on the Urtext of the “Halle Handel Edition” Idiomatic realization of the continuo part

Jan Kubelik (1880-1940) is regarded as one of the most outstanding Czech Violin virtuosos. He studied Violin under Otakar Sevcik and composition under Josef Foerster Karel Knittl and Karel Stecker at the Prague Conservatory. After his studies he focused solely on his concert career. Kubelik made the Czech Violin tradition famous around the whole world and he was hailed as a new Paganini ( Paganini redivivus ). Nowadays his most played pieces are small compositions for Violin and Piano including this Minuet In An Old Style composed in 1930. They have been highly regarded for their perfect instrumental stylisation and the use ofpurely violinistic cantilena. 6 Violin concertos are set broadly rather like symphonies than concertos. Kubelik also composed Orchestral and Piano accompaniments for the works of Paganini (preserved in manuscripts) and cadenzas for numerous Violin concertos.

Second Livre Für Cembalo- Edited by Denis Herlin With notes on performance practice Once again the French musicologist Denis Herlin who mastered the harpsichord under the tutelage of such keyboard legends as Kenneth Gilbert and Huguette Dreyfus has presented an exemplary edition of a classic from the harpsichord repertoire.’ Bärenreiter presents Book II of Couperin’s “Pièces de clavecin” first published in 1717. In addition the eight preludes and one allemande from his treatise “L’Art de toucher le clavecin” are included in the appendix. For the first time Denis Herlin has evaluated the many later impressions of the original print most of which he unearthed himself ininternational libraries. By preserving the essential features of the original print while largely dispensing with disruptive page-turns within the pieces the volume brings modern performers close to the special sound of this music. Rounding off this pioneering new edition are an extensive Foreword notes on historical performance practice a comprehensive glossary facsimile pages and a detailed Critical Commentary. Pioneering edition with the first-time evaluation of an extensive body of sources Includes Couperin’s original expression marks with 8 Préludes and 1 Allemande from 'L'Art de toucher le clavecin' (1716–1717)
