Aquariums have come a long way since the first Sea Life centre opened its doors in the West Highlands of Scotland in 1979. This ticket allows entry to a choice of Sea Life Centres and Sea Life Sanctuaries around the country. Sea Life Centres accommodate a vast array of native sea life from British waters and tropical fish from further a field. Sea Life displays faithfully recreate the marine life's natural habitats; from tide-ravaged rock-pools, beds of eel-grass and sandy shallows to dark rocky sub-marine caves and the icy deep. Alongside educating and fascinating the public, the Sea Life Sanctuaries' key initiative is to rescue, treat and rehabilitate sick, injured or distressed marine animals who are found around our shores. No animal is ever turned away and many are later released to the wild. Each location varies but typically at a Sea Life centre you can expect to find spectacular displays from touch pools to walkthrough underwater tunnels providing breathtaking, close encounters with everything from humble shrimps and starfish to seahorses, sharks, rays and octopus. Regular talks and feeding demonstrations provide an even deeper insight into the magical mysteries of the seas. At a Sea Life Sanctuary your day will allow you to experience for yourself what the sanctuary does to help care for and protect local marine life, as well as see animals that have been rescued and saved. Depending on the sanctuary location, you could see animals such as seals, penguins and otters along with other marine life. You may also have the opportunity to watch the sanctuary staff feeding the residents! On purchasing this experience, you will receive a voucher which you will need to take with you to your chosen location and exchange for your sea life ticket at the ticket booth.
