The two-volume collection 'Romantic Piano Music' draws from the vast repertoire of 19th-century music for piano duet. The 23 pieces include real 'gems' – unjustly forgotten or lesser known works which shall be brought to mind again with these two volumes. As a consequence rarely played works of great composers such as Schubert Mendelssohn Dvorák Schumann Brahms Fauré and Moszkowski are next to hitherto undiscovered compositions by Johann Ludwig Böhner Heinrich Hofmann Friedrich Gernsheim or Julius Röntgen among others. A creative collection to add to the piano duet repertoire.

The mazurka was Chopin's companion throughout his entire artistic life: He wrote the Mazurka in A minor Op. 68 at the age of seventeen and even his very last composition was dedicated to this Polish dance form. 'Chopin unleashed the unknown poetry which was only suggested in the original themes of the true national mazurkas. Maintaining their rhythm he refined the melody expanded the proportions and introduced a harmonic contrast that was as new as the objects to which he adjusted it…' (F. Liszt). Of the total of 58 mazurkas by Chopin this edition provides a selection of the better known and easier pieces for lessons and music lovers.

At about the same time as 1783-85 a version for piano duet was made which rearranged the movements of the five Divertimenti as 6 Viennese Sonatinas'.Our new edition is based on the piano version of 1803 but also takes into account the original wind divertimenti and attempts to combine the original phrasing and part-writing with an idiomatic pianistic style. The edition is part of the Trinity syllabus 2007 (grade 1st concert certificate)

This important variation cycle was written in the year of Schubert’s death 1828 by Rinck who had studied with the Bach pupil Kittel. The date of composition places it firmly in the organ repertoire of the Romantic period. It is particularly suitable as a light-hearted encore piece but can be equally rewarding as part of any concert programme or even in a liturgical context at Christmas time. This is now the only available edition of the work and is based on the first edition in the collection of the Hessische Landes- und Hochschulbibliothek Darmstadt.

Who would have thought that ragtime would enjoy another renaissance! But more than 50 years after the death of its main representative Scott Joplin the film 'The Sting' has made this once popular style well-known and fashionable again. This small selection of Joplin rags is of course not complete without 'The Entertainer'. In comparison 'Easy Winners' and 'Rag-Time Dance' are no less fun to play particularly since in the latter the performer not only has to play but also stomp his foot. Excellent music providing entertainment for many occasions!

Kirchner a volatile seeker after truth became as a composer a master of transient visions. His importance lies in his piano music. His work com-prises about a thousand individual pieces. Schumann his revered and adored friend proved initially to be an overpowering idol and Kirchner gave his works titles like ‘Neue Davidsbündlertänze’ ‘Neue Kinderscener’. Subsequently other highly idiosyncratic titles reveal more about the special characteristics of his own style. ‘Federzeichnungen’ (Pen and Ink Sketches) and ‘Im Zwielicht’ (In the Gloaming) point to a life between two worlds and show a fragility which gives Kirchner’s works their own particular charm. Thetwo volumes of the ‘Neue Albumblätter’ (New Albumleaves) are witness to this fragile world. These transient sketches move in the lower dynamic range. Modulations shifting chords and enharmonic changes lead the listener astray; formal expectations are disappointed. Our edition is based on the original two volumes published by Augener in 1880 and reissued by Schott in 1911 under a new title.
