This collection of five pieces by James Rae was written with the aim of introducing players to the rhythmic elements of 'Latin American' music at an elemenatary level.They are written within a comforatble range of the insttrument to allow for maximum concetration on style and interpretation. Fratres (original setting for violin and piano) was commissioned by the Salzburg Festival and premiered on August 17th 1980 at that very place (violin: Gidon Kremer piano: Elena Kremer). Daniel Hope internationally acclaimed violin soloist says about the piece: 'Fratres opened up my ears in a completely new way. Recently when I recorded it I was extremely pleased about the edition by Universal Edition. A masterpiece needs an illustration that clearly depicts the composer's wishes as it was done with this piece.' Composed in Pärt's very own 'Tintinnabuli'-style this piece allows many different settings because it is not bound to aspecific klangfarbe (tone color).

For String Instruments Percussion and Celesta- The Music for Strings Percussion and Celesta is a central work not only in Bartok's œuvre it is also recognized as a key work in the music of the 20th century. ln spite of the work's monothematic conception all four movements have their own individual character. The constant return of the fugal theme from the first movement gives an organic unity to a series of complementary moods. The theme appears either in its original form or in inversions sometimes slow in a chromatic trepidation and elsewhere as an expression of pure diatonic dignity and joy. Fünf Ausgewählte Lieder-Mahler for violin and piano? Why not! The violin is probably the instrument most akin to the human voice and Mahler was a prolific song writer. Georgian violinist Lisa Batiashvili has chosen five songs in arrangements by Ronald Kornfeil to enhance her own and others’ concert repertoire. She offers a selection from “Aus der Jugendzeit” “Fahrenden Gesellen” and “Des Knaben Wunderhorn” including the gorgeous “Urlicht”. The full-throated piano accompaniments of these originally orchestral songs will not only do the songs justice but also remind us of their use in Mahler’s symphonies where of course the solo violin often featured. With no huge technicaldemands these arrangements can be tackled even by intermediate players and will offer students a rewarding exercise in powerful yet lyrical playing.

A fun collection of Celtic Violin duets arranged or written by Aleksey Igudesman. Includes arrangements of Auld Lang Syne Danny Boy Scotland the Brave and other famous Celtic tunes. Taken from Passion Oratorio arranged in two parts based on the gospels and texts according to St. Augustin. Frank Martin was born in Geneva Switzerland on 15 September 1890. He was the tenth and youngest child of a clergyman's family. He played and improvised on the Piano even before he went to school.
