Entertaining titles of original works include Mission Possible (an entertaining spoof version of Mission Impossible) and Reggae for Carmen (an amusing mix of Stevie Wonder’s Masterblaster and the Habañera from Carmen) as well as other more traditional arrangement of tunes such as Danny Boy and House of the Rising Sun. The relatively simple top line combined with the more detailed accompaniment offers a range of challenges which will make this book of usethroughout the easy to intermediate stages of learning the guitar. A CD included allowing accompanied performance of the pieces at home. Although the CD is performed on steel-strung guitars this book is nevertheless also perfectly relevant for classical guitarists. Like the Littlemore Tractus Pärt's setting of the Salve Regina has an extended hymn-like feel to it. Typically it builds very gradually to a late majestic climax - unison vocal lines at the outset broader harmonies later some intriguing eccentricities in the organ part along the way. It was the wish of Hubert Luthe Bishup of Essen Cathedral that this particular text be set in honour of the building's priceless golden Madonna. The premiere was in May 2002 to mark both the Bishop's seventy-fifth birthday and Essen's own 1150th anniversary.

Arrangements of both Elton John’s Can you Feel the Love Tonight? from The Lion King and Yann Tiersen’s Amélie’s Waltz from the film Amélie feature amongst this collection of new piano solos from Nicolai Podgornov.Following the success of his first album he has created an assortment of musical surprises for middle-grade pianists.The pieces range from dreamy to energetic but all provide stimulating and expressive moments at the piano. Nicolai Podgornov writes: “I hope that every romantic – no matter what age – discovers something of interest in this album and finds pleasure in playing these pieces.”

The 'Romanian Folk Dances' undoubtedly rank amongst Bartok's most popular compositions. The earliest version is scored for piano (1915) and was published by Universal Edition in 1918. The composer himself orchestrated this version in 1917. Several other chamber music arrangements (for example Zoltan Székely's version for violin and piano) were not by Bartok although he authorised them. The musical material derives from Bartok's collections of folk music which date right back to 1904 when he wrote down a melody sung by a Hungarian peasant girl. In the course of extensive travels throughout Eastern Europe Bartokcompiled an enormous collection of folk tunes (by 1918 his collection comprised no fewer than 2700 Hungarian 3500 Romanian and 3000 Slovak dances and songs) which would in all probability have been lost had Bartok not written them down. As it was some of them found their way into his compositions. In 1908 Bartok jotted down dance tunes in Transsylvania. They are the source of the 'Romanian Folk Dances'.

One of the most popular works by the Estonian minimalist Spiegel Im Spiegel is based upon extremely simple progressions assembled as repeating fragments that combine to create a breathtaking and stirring whole. The piece was featured in the 2003 Gus van Sant drama Gerry .

From 44 Duos For 2 Violins- Bela Bartok's 44 Violin Duos or selections therefrom have been the source of arrangements for a variety of instruments such as for piano (one set by the composer the Petite Suite) band as well as duos for every member of the string family even contrabass. These all followed the original concept: a pair of identical instruments. This set for viola and violoncello is intended to fill a gap where two instruments an octave apart can produce the broader tonal range. (P. Bartok)

Robert de Visée (c.1655 – 1732) was a French lutenist guitarist and Court musician for both Louis XIV and Louis XV. Suite H-Moll is also known as Suite No. 11 in B Minor . It is written in 5 movements: Prélude – Allemande – Sarabande – Gigue – Passacaille . First published in the 1680s it was almost certainly written when de Visée was already a respected musician at Versailles and was probably performed in front of the Kings on many occasions. De Visée would have used a 5 string Baroque Guitar. It has been arranged for the modern 6 string instrument by the noted Guitar arranger and virtuoso Karl Scheit .
