For Trumpet and Band-During his lifetime Heinrich Schaffer (1808-1874) was a famous singerand singing teacher. With his compositions for male-voice choir hewas very influential in northern Germany. Nowadays little is left ofthis man?s fame. Only his song Die Post im Walde is regularly performedwith much enjoyment by many men?s choirs. This beautiful song is nowavailable for trumpet and concert band.

Tanabata-In Japan July the 7th is a holiday known as Tanabata for which large celebrations are held throughout the country. The holiday is based on a legend about a young man and a young woman who are separated by the Milky Way and can only see each other once a year on this night. The Seventh Night of July is Itaru Sakai’s musical interpretation of this romantic legend. The alto saxophone and euphonium solos during the middle movement represent the two main themes from the legend.

Feelings is a well-known easy listening hit that was written halfway through the 1970s by the Brazilian singer-songwriter Morris Albert. However the melody is derived from a French song (Pour toi) from 1957 written by Louis Gaste who made this claim successfully. Over the years Feelings has been performed by famous artists like Ella Fitzgerald Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. Numerous arrangements have been made for various instrumentations. This arrangement by Roland Kernen does justice to the original.

Wedding March (Marche nuptiale) est une œuvre de circonstance que le compositeur belge Jan Van der Roost a écrite en 2007 pour la cérémonie de mariage de son ami le compositeur néerlandais Johan De Meij. La création de l’œuvre a eu lieu par une belle journée fin août 2007. Jan Van der Roost en a assuré la direction.Si la musique dénote une influence de Mendelssohn et d’Elgar cette marche renferme néanmoins les traits caractéristiques de Jan Van der Roost : des thèmes variés et une grande expressivité de la mélodie cantabile du trio. La partie d’orgue (passage de fin) est ad libitum mais il va de soi que les sonorités de l’orgue enveloppent la musiqued’une splendeur extraordinaire.

Salute was composed on commission of the International Vilnius Band Festival “Baltijos trimitai” (Baltic fanfares) in 1992. The piece is characterized by an immediately recognizable melody and bright mood. This composition by Kazys Daugela is definitely a spectacular show-piece.

Let Us Journey to Bethlehem-The German composer Joseph Ignaz Schnabel (1767-1831) was a descendant of a musical family. During his lifetime he occupied several musical posts including Violinist Organist Concertmaster Conductor Music Teacher and managing director of the Royal Institute for Church Music. Schnabel composed masses hymns vespers military music and a clarinet concerto. His choir work Transeamus usque Bethlehem is still widely performed and Wil van der Beek has produced this excellent arrangement for concert band which does justice to the original.
