March-Hermann Pallhuber’s traditional march was commissioned by the Austrian Television and was used as festive incidental music at a convention for conductors and concert bands in Innsbruck Austria. That is why it is subtitled “Wildschönauer Festmarsch” (Wildschönau festival march). A Village Festival will make an ideal opening piece but will work equally well to bring a concertto a lively close.

This composition was commissioned by the Musique Municipale d’Ingwiller for the occasion of their 150th anniversary. The source of inspiration for this work was the municipality of Ingwiller in the French region Alsace. The title of the work refers to the many buildings there that are made of red sandstone and to the ‘Schlembe’ a train connecting Ingwiller with Bouxwiller for sixty years. It consists of 4 movements all related to the city of Ingwiller and its history. Cantata for the Feast of Reformation- Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott BWV 80 (A Mighty Fortress is our God) Cantata for the Feast of Reformation There are practically no surviving original sources for Bach's great Reformation Cantata 'Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott'. It is possible that the original form of the Cantata was written in Weimar in 1715 to which Bach later made various additions and alterations to transform it into a Reformation Cantata for Leipzig. Although scholarly opinion as to the sources is divided there is no doubt that the opening chorus based on Martin Luther's chorale melody 'Ein feste Burg' is one of Bach's greatest achievements. As performed by J. Geils Band-The ´J. Geils Band´ from Massachusetts in the USA played blues-rock in the 1970s but by the beginning of the 1980s had evolved their sound to a somewhat more pop style. And not without success: the album Freeze Frame sold by the million! The eponymous song Freeze Frame was the second single release from the album and has become an absolute favourite with audiences everywhere.

Edward MacDowell can be regarded as the first great American composer although he disliked the idea of being classified as any sort of musical nationalist. He composed a large number of orchestral works but it is the charming and unpretentious suite of musical miniatures Woodland Sketches that has survived as his best-known work with To a Wild Rose being the most popular. Philip Sparke has expertly arranged this simple work for concert band.

To this day Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains one of the most prolific composers for wind instruments despite being a violinist himself. His Allegro and Finale for bass brass or Double Bass with Piano accompaniment is an exquisite and unique addition to the repertoire. During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire Bozza won prizes for Violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and became Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes whilst remaining a prominent composer. Composed in 1953 Bozza 's Allegro andFinale reflects the composer's success in composing for a variety of instrumentations. As music educationalist Paul Griffiths has written of Bozza 's compositions 'his works reveal melodic fluency elegance of structure and a consistenly sensitive concern of instrumental capabilities.'
