Félicien Doyen the President of the Tornacum Royal Choir Circle of Tournai (Belgium) and a close friend of the composer commissioned this Mass. Missa Tornacum was originally composed for mixed choir and organ gave a memorable performance of thepiece in the Chartres Cathedral in France.Although it does not include the Credo the work is composed according to the traditional structure of a Mass in five parts : Kyrie Gloria Sanctus Agnus Dei and Ite missa est. En the first two parts adialogue is created between the choir and the band. It is followed by the Sanctus cycle (Sanctus - Hosanna - Benedictus) which is remarkable for the contrasts between the tone colorscharacterizing each of its three parts. The fourth part Agnus Dei takes on a tone of serene intimacy. A free counterpoint draws this section to a close by fading into an almost imperceptible quietness. Ite missa est begins with a series of imitations which develop into a majestic and cheerful passagemarking the end of the Mass. Choir parts are available separately.

A technique much employed by Verdi is to alternate main scenes of a drama with others which allow the listener to relax temporarily. These moments are often entrusted to the choir (as in the case of the well-known Rataplan in La forza del destino ). In Trovatore the soldiers’ chorus precedes the scene of the capture of the gipsy woman Azucena by Conte di Luna’s men. The soldiers are about to attack the fortress of Castellor in which Manrico (the troubadour) and Leonora together with many other rebels have found shelter. The very easy-going choir is in blunt contrast to the following scene in which Ferrando the loyal squire of Conte di Luna recognizes theold gipsy woman. This recognition marks the beginning of wicked developments for all protagonists in this drama.

Song of Liberation-A composition with the liberation from the Second World War as its theme. After a solemn introduction one hears the melody of the hymn Abide with you which was sung a lot during the war. Following there are variations on the theme finally leading to the magisterial conclusion that represents the ultimate liberation.The work may be interpreted as popular music (with the part for drumset) but a more serious version without drums is possible and indeed preferable.

Between 1996 and 2000 Bärenreiter published scholarly-critical editions of Beethoven 's Nine Symphonies edited by the first class musicologist Jonathan Del Mar. The editorial process was a huge undertaking because of the complex source situation regarding Beethoven's Symphonies culminating in the Choral Symphony (No.9) which came down to us in nearly 20 different sources. So it was not surprising that Bärenreiter's new Urtext edition caused a considerable stir in the music world. Since publication Del Mar's edition enjoys the unabashed praise of conductors performers and critics alike and has become the most widely used publication of the Beethoven Symphonieswhich can be heard not only every day in concert halls but also on CD recordings by John Eliot Gardiner David Zinman Jos van Immerseel and Claudio Abbado. Inspiration was commissioned by the Solothurnischer Kanotonal Musikverband in Switzerland in 1993. The composition begins with an A-theme written in a Phrygian tonality and after an enormous climax moves on into a quicker B-section characterized by the use of wide interval jumps. Then follows the development in which both themes return individually and together. Peace and quiet is restored in the slow middle movement based on the B-theme. The movement comes to a close with a tutti B-theme brutally interrupted by fragments from the A-theme. Without a break the final movement of this contrastive piece develops from these fragments. The theme of this extremelyrhythmical closing movement is built up of elements from the A-theme whilst the B-theme (from the slow middle movement) returns in full once more. Before the piece comes to a close in a resounding fortissimo the cornet soloist performs the A-theme from the back of the auditorium to special effect.

Naoya Wada’s style is characterised by a positive and optimistic undertone. This is also the case in this composition with the expressive title Towards the Bright Future . The opening fanfare is played by the brass and immediately provides the basis for the themes in a composition where melodious passages alternate with blaring brass and several flashing changes of time. This work was composed on commission to the Kokura Nishi High School Band for its 110th anniversary. The composer dedicated it to Hirofumi Matsumoto the school'’s director.

Concert Overture- The Hebrides Op.26 Concert Overture The Hebrides the third in Bärenreiter's series of critical editions of Mendelssohn's great overtures is one of Mendelssohn Bartholdy's most performed compositions. Previously this work was only available in one composite version: the Julius Rietz edition from the 1860s. The new Bärenreiter edition consist of two versions each containing additional material from further sources. Version one the Rome version exists itself in two versions and has never been published in a performing edition. Version two the London version also exists in two versions one of which was published by Mendelssohn in 1835. This pioneering edition documents the development of the composition and the various changes made by Mendelssohn . The new edition offers orchestras for the first time the possibility to perform this famous work based on all known sources. Bach composed these suites early in life before any of the other suite sets such as the French suites. They portray a young Bach bursting with energy dexterity and ideas and rapt enthusiasm for the newest styles of the day - the Italian concertos of Vivaldi and the French harpsichord suites of D'Anglebert Daquin and Couperin. Melding these powerful forms with the already Italianate German fantasy or toccata Bach produced some of the world's first true virtuoso keyboard masterpieces.
