Cantata for Easter Monday- Bleib Bei Uns Denn Es Will Abend Werden BWV 6 Cantata for Easter Monday - Full score & performance material (BA10006) vocal score (BA10006-90) available for sale Barenreiter's editions of Bach 's Cantatas offer the authoritative text of the New Bach Edition meeting Bärenreiter Urtext standards. No group of works in Johann Sebastian Bach ’s output is as wide-ranging as the cantatas. This is hardly surprising considering that for over five years Bach was required to compose a work or at least re-work an existing one for every Sunday and festival of the church year as well as for numerous secular occasions such ascouncil inaugurations school and university celebrations and royal birthdays. Unfortunately not all cantatas have survived. However over 200 sacred and secular works exist and form a corpus of works suitable for all possible occasions. This rich musical heritage is still as relevant today as it was then.

The English king Henry VIII (1491-1547) is mainly remembered for disposing of his wives on a regular basis and breaking with the Catholic Church when the Pope Clement VII refused to grant him a divorce so he could marry Anne Boleyn. As a young man he was a gifted athlete dancer and composer writing many songs poems and consort pieces (though not Greensleeves as is often believed). Pastime with Good Company is undoubtedly the best-known of these written in the first years of the 16th century while he was still a handsome prince newly married to Catherine of Aragon and the envy of Europe. The lyrics tell of the joys of hunting dancing and singing and would have been sungas part of the court entertainment. This arrangement features a quartet of soloists and two solo drummers. The scope of the genres and styles in Jazz Piano Studies 2 is broader compared to that of Jazz Piano Studies 1 (H5020) since it also covers the various off shoots of contemporary popular music related only marginally to jazz. The selection of twenty studies is aimed at amateur Piano players who are interested in jazz and popular music and serves in particular for the improvement of technique and style. The studies also equip pianists with the necessary grounding for their own improvisation although they can also be used by professional Piano players.

During his short lifetime Max Reger (1873-1916) was a prolific composer with many of his best known works being composed for organ. The ten chorale preludes in this selection are from his set of Thirty Short Chorale Preludes Op.135a composed as short voluntaries for liturgical use rather than for recitals in these arrangements Philip Sparke has kept this in mind and each prelude can be performed with minimal instrumentation for those occasions where a small band is needed. They also make great pieces for band warm-ups or studies in intonation sound and balance.

Cantata for the First Sunday of Advent- Nun Komm Der Heiden Heiland BWV 61 Cantata for the First Sunday of Advent Bach began two of his cantatas with Martin Luther`s Advent hymn ' Nun Komm Der Heiden Heiland ' a German version of the early church hymn 'Veni redemptor gentium'. One of the most gripping solo parts (following the pattern recitative – aria – recitative – aria) is the bass recitative on the words of the Revelation with its highly expressive declamation of the vocal line and the naive graphicness of the pounding string accompaniment. Equally captivating is the following soprano aria which 'opens its heart' upon the Saviour's 'knocking' in amelody full of the cheerful tidings of Advent. The cantata ends brilliantly with a lovely figurative chorale movement enhanced by the interplay of a lively bustling Violin part which ultimately soars upward to breathtaking heights. Urtext of the New Bach Edition Performance material (BA10061) vocal score (BA10061-90) & study score format 22.5 x 16cm (TP1061) available for sale.
