'I arrived in New York City from Sweden on a warm September evening to take up my studies with Leonard Rose at the Juilliard School of the Performing Arts. I was 18 years old. The first week I had fish for supper every day thinking mother would approve. During that time leading up to my first lesson I composed the suite presented here as a gift to my new teacher.' The 2004 revision meant some minor changes to the first five movements and the scrapping of the sixth. The sixth the final movement of the suite was initially a prelude and fugue a result of the theory lessons with composer Lawrence Widdoes - and in C minor at that. I decided to replace it with the Ave Maria music written a month after September 11 2001. As a citizen of this world I was desperate to counter inhumanity with positive creativity. The movement was written for the acoustics of a church.

26 pieces in all major and minor keys (pentatonic melody)-The popularity of Cornelius Gurlitt's (1820-1901) varied and abundant piano œuvre certainly inspired by his work as a music teacher is undiminished until today and still of great educational significance in music lessons. The musical language of his four-handed piano miniatures is very similar to that of the compositions by Carl Reinecke and Theodor Kirchner. 'Hours of rest' was published for the first time by Schott in 1880 and shall now be made accessible again for music lessons with this new edition. The miniatures have a simple yet effective structure are arranged in an educationally sensible way and have an expressive tonal language containing cantabile folk-song-like dance-like expressive and chorale-like elements. Everything that makes beginner's lessons sensible and systematic is dealt with in these 26 varied miniatures; in particular the pupils are made familiar with all major and minor modes. As in Diabelli's famous 'Melodious Exercises' the primo part is played within the pentatonic scale thus being perfect for beginners. The demands for the secondo player are somewhat higher. A valuable addition to the piano duet repertoire.

Harp Solo-Consolation - Like A Roselike Flower (Consolazione - Flos Ut Rosa) for Harp solo by Per Nørgård (2002). Written for and dedicated to Tine Rehling. Programme note by the composer: The concept of Mary has a depth that transcends all religious persuasions. All over the earth symbols of the gentle and maternal are known. But the word 'Maria' is also associated - in sound - with the Latin word for the sea mare and she thus become the Star of the Sea Maris Stella. In my 3rd Symphony the Maria motif is used in a hymn section in the second and last part of the work. The choral song Flos ut rosa floruit was composed directly in the context of the symphony and themelody had a 'stamina' that carried it over into many later vocal and choral compositions for instance the Concerto for Harp No. 2 - through thorns (2003) and the present Consolazione for harp solo both works dedicated to Tine Rehling. Tributes - Album For Strings (1994-95) by Per Norgard . Parts are available on hire: hire@ewh.dk I: FOUR OBSERVATIONS - FROM AN INFINTE RAPPORT - hommage a Bartok (1995) II: OUT OF THIS WORLD - hommage a Lutoslawski (1994) III: VOYAGE INTO THE BROKEN SCREEN - hommage a Sibelius (1995). Programme note TRIBUTES - album for strings (1994-95) includes three hommages which might also be performed separately. The shared point of departure was the hommage to three major composers of the 20th century - Bartok Lutoslawski and Sibelius. In FOUR OBSERVATIONS the hommage is to Bartok (on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death 1995). Hungarian Radio asked me to write a piece in his honor but apart from the very last unison string figure which is - I think - very Bartokian the work in no way intends to evoke even less to imitate the musical style of the great Hungarian master. This would be an act of impudence against a composer who was such an exceptionally integrated personality and who has himself shown (in 'Mikrokosmos') the worthy way to pay a personal tribute to highly respected colleagues: In 'Hommage a J.S.B.' and 'Hommage à R. Sch.' Bela Bartok composes in his own manner but lets the music reflect some qualities of the said composers as perceived in Bartok's mind. In a similar way my 'Observations from an infinite Rapport' reflects as well the timeless proportions of the 'golden section' - which seem to have inspired Bartok so much - in his great respect for perceptive structural patterns. 'OUT OF THIS WORLD' was composed at the request of a group of Lutoslawski's friends as a symbol of parting to a great composer and a noble man. The title quotes a poem by Yunus Emre the Turkish 14th century poet. The opening line of the poem 'Biz dunyadan' reads as follows in English translation: 'We are on the way out of this world we

Kings' Parade was written for a woodwind competition in Cambridge hence the title - one of my favourite spots in that wonderful city. The music reflects both the hustle and bustle of the place and the sense of grandeur that one feels walking past those imposing buildings of learning and purpose. It should be played with an animated and energetic feel for the rhythm and a broad and resonant legato in the lyrical passages.
