The famous monolith Ayers Rock (also called Uluru) is the only true attraction in the Northern Territory of Australia. This colossal red rock lies in the middle of a desert plain. At dusk a beautiful spectacle develops as the setting sun envelops the rock in rose-red hues. There are tourists who climb the rock while this is a taboo according to the indigenous religion of the Aboriginals. Besides the climb is very strenuous. A walk around the rock is also an unforgettable experience.During a journey through Australia Henk Hogestein was inspired by this rock; he composed this robust rock number to cherish the memory of it.

The Blues is a well-known style of popular music. The name does not come out of thin air. After all the term ‘blues’ refers to a state of mind: with the sentence ‘I got the blues’ someone means they are in low spirits. The blues originate in the melancholic music that the slaves in the southern United States made to relieve their depressing circumstances to some extent. This new concert work makes use of ‘blue notes’ (the flattened 3rd and 7th notes of the scale) which give this exciting work its blues sound.

This unusual concert work commissioned by the concert band ?Harmonie Concorde? from Sanem in Luxembourg is built on two basic ideas: the evolution of the economic and social context of this Luxembourg city with its strong mining industry and the European concept which is clearly present in this very small but prosperous country with its many European institutes. This is musically expressed in a few quotes from the European hymn Ode to Joy the closing of Beethoven?s Ninth Symphony and from the Te Deum by Charpentier ? widely known as the signature tune for Eurovision broadcasts. A work of true unity.

The melody of the chorale Nun danket alle Gott (Now Thank We All Our God) was originally written in 1636 by the German clergyman and musician Martin Rinckart . Its international fame is due to the fact that in 1725 Johann Sebastian Bach based his cantata Gott der Herr ist Sonn’ und Schild (BWV 79) on this melody. The five-part arrangement by Roland Kernen that lies before you is suitable for a variable brass line-up. After a short introduction the chorale follows first in four-part harmony and later with an added counterpart. A middle section which sounds refreshing and rhythmic because of the time changes and articulation used finally leads to a repeat of thechorale with an agile upper part. This arrangement also contains an organ part ad libitum.

The Albinoni Adagio is based on a manuscript that was discovered among the ruins in the Dresden State Library after the Second World War by Remo Giazotto a Milanese musicologist who was working on Albinoni?s biography at the time. Only the bass line and six bars of melody were there ? they probably belonged to the slow movement of a Trio Sonata. Around 1945 Giazotto reconstructed the now-famous Adagio that has made Albinoni known to a wider public. Ironically enough Albinoni himself would probably hardly recognize the piece.Part 1 Fl Ob Bb Clar S Sax Tpt Part 2 Fl Bb Clar Eb Clar A Sax Tpt Hrn Part 3 Eb Clar T Sax Bsn Hrn Trom Euph Part 4 T Sax Bsn Trom Euph Tuba Part 5 Bass Clar Bari Sax Bsn Euph Tuba Cont Bsn

Huber dedicated this Concertino to his pupil Sophie Simon. It is perfectly playable in the first position but in some places you can use the second and the third position if you have already mastered them. Study & Play is ideal for developing your playing in an enjoyable and musically sound way. Each edition within this concept features a CD to add something extra to your study routine. When you play this Concertino the CD allows you to practise at a slower study tempo as well as the normal tempo so that you can work on your violin playing in a more concentrated way whilst improving your insight into the music. You can continue to study in this goal-orientatedway until you have achieved the desired result. Read the information about the CD carefully in order to utilise this concept to the full. The title of this piece suggests a concert situation: playing a solo part with accompaniment. There are thousands of such works for the violin but many of these cannot be tackled until you have been playing for a considerable time. Concertino in F major Opus 7 enables you to gain necessary experience for this type of playing; namely having sufficient musical and technical control over your instrument whilst having the support of an accompanist during performance. This carefully chosen concertino will enrich your repertoire.

Festival Overture for Band-This “Grand Overture” was commissioned by the “Nagano Community Band” - Japan- on occasion of its jubilee in 1992 and is dedicated to the band’s conductor Ikuo Inagaki. The work is based upon three main themes each symbolising a certain theme. The first part is characterized by its bright themes played mainly by the brass accompanied by the woodwinds and festive percussion. This part symbolizes the jubilee which is the origin of the composition. This is followed by a bouncing allegro in which each register of the band displays brilliant techniques. Especially the woodwinds come to the fore! This movement depicts the industriousness and enthousiasm shown by the members of the“Nagano Community Band” in the carrying out of their hobby. A third main theme is choral-like in character and is displayed both in the (soft) brass as well as in the warm medium register of the reeds. Here nature’s beaty in and around the city of Nagano is musically celebrated. Following a “chamber-music episode” (featuring the flute oboe clarinet alto-saxophone and horn) the initial allegro re-occurs weaving its way towards a grandiose finale in which the two previous themes are once again apparent. Due to its very colourful scoring and the enormous diversity of musical thoughts and ideas this composition is a fascinating and memorable piece worthy a jubilee overture!

The motivation for composing this test piece for the Concert Division Brassband of the 2001 WMC was Rob Goorhuis's deep respect for one of the greatest Dutch composers of the 20-th century who also enlarged the wind band repertoire in a most valuable way. Goorhuis wanted to light up the soft and kind side of the brassband and wrote about this composition : The basis is a theme of twelve tones wich Badings once played at an International Organ Improvisation Contest in Haarlem. My organ teacher participated in that contest and so the theme remained somehow in the back of my mind. The composer worked out a series of variations and clustered them into bundles ofthree and so the melody kept its diversity while remaining easy to recognise.

The title track to the film of the same name was originally composed by Chuck Mangione. The well-known melody helped make this 1970’s jazz and pop legend so famous and popular. Peter Kleine Schaars skilfully transforms this classic film theme into an excellent arrangement for concert band featuring the flute and trumpet.
