A Christmas Carol (Hungarian folksong)-The piece was written originally for equal voice choir in 1929. A mixed-choir adaptation was made in 1961 at the request of Oxford University Press. This appeared in print in the same year with an English text under the title A Christmas Carol in a collection of Christmas songs as well as in a separate print. The musical material of the mixed-choir version largely follows the original. There is one essential difference in verse 5 beginning at bar 35 (Babe all holy) where the tenor solo appears with a delightful eight-bar countermelody not found in the original. Since this version only appeared in Kodály's lifetime with an English text this has been retained but we havealso provided the original Hungarian text upon which the equal voice version is based. Zoltán Kodály's complete choral works for mixed voices were published in a new extended edition in 2018 (Z. 6725 and Z. 6725A). This volume containing 51 compositions has been edited by the renowned conductor Péter Erdei one of the most devoted interpreters of Kodály's choral works. The new edition takes into consideration the manuscript sources for the compositions housed in the Kodály Archives in Budapest. The publication features new easily-legible music scores edited on uniform principles. For better readability the new edition is printed in a slightly larger format than previous editions.The present publication is an offprint from the renewed edition of Kodály's complete choral works for mixed voices. It has the same format as the volume and has been printed on excellent-quality pale-yellow paper.

Specially produced in association with the Beethoven-Haus Bonn for the 250th Anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth this souvenir collection of some of his most famous pieces and movements allows us to rediscover the joy of experiencing the full range of his music in the home and through our fingers just as millions of amateur musicians got to know and love this music in the days before recordings. The volume contains original works for piano such as the ever-popular Für Elise and expert arrangements of orchestral movements such as the first movement of the Fifth Symphony and the Ode to Joy from the Ninth Symphony. Beautifully illustrated and with introductions to all pieces this handsome book comes in a practical landscape format. Edition Peters enjoyed a close working relationship with Beethoven as the original publisher of his First Symphony among other works. The book also tells the fascinating story of the connection between Edition Peters and the most famous portrait of Beethoven by Joseph Karl Stieler.

When Jeffrey Skidmore of Ex Cathedra approached me to write this piece he specified that it should be remembering the first World War and if at all possible the words should be by or about a woman.A friend steered me towards Vera Brittain's Testament of Youth and spookily the book fell open on page 163 where appeared Kathleen Coates' s poem A Year and a Day. This was written between 1910 and 1913 but is I think prophetic of the impending war in its depiction of a woman and man in love reluctantly separated and missing each other. Around the same time my mother sent me the poem 'Since we parted yestereve' by Victorian statesman and poet Robert Bulwer-Lytton(1831-1891) — it seemed to fit beautifully as a refrain to 'A Year and a Day'.We start with the refrain in which I try to create a sense of yearning — with harmonies that lean into each other and suspensions that only partly resolve. I have given the ladies the first verse of 'A Year and a Day' — I have used mellow flat keys as this is marked languorously as I picture a calm but pining Edwardian lady reclining in a warm English Summer's garden. When the men take over in the second verse this comes from a darker place — maybe a noisy fetid trench where dreams of love and happiness are sometimes hard to conjure. The music shifts in harmonic uncertainty — the harp oscillates and rumbles creating instability. This part is written in sharp keys which I think have a more stringent feel about them. The whole piece is made up of my typical major-minor harmonic language which sets a bittersweet atmosphere and the trumpets remind us from time to time of the backdrop of war. The piece ends meditatively with 'Eleven Armistice Chimes' and lasts approximately 10 minutes. It's dedicated to Jeffrey Skidmore and Ex Cathedra and my deepest thanks go to them for commissioning the work and Jane Arthur for sponsoring the commission.

for SATB unaccompanied This is a declamatory setting of a popular Easter text by Gerard Manley Hopkins in an upbeat 7/8 metre. Featuring compelling interplay between choral sections a slower reflective passage and a rousing conclusion this anthem will bring a fresh sound to Easter services and concerts.

for SATB and organ or brass ensemble This rousing arrangement of Rimsky-Korsakov's 'Glory' (Slava Op.21) brings this popular Russian anthem to a wider audience. The original Russian text is replaced by a hymn by the arranger that is particularly suitable for Easter as well as general use. A brass ensemble accompaniment is also available.

This work for orchestra was commissioned by Arktisk Filharmoni and was premiered at the Stormen Cultural Centre in Bodø in February 2020. The composer writes 'A Walk to Beethoven' is a walk to Beethoven’s Symphony no. 7. It is the main theme of the second movement that you can discern in my piece. I chose that theme partly because I just love it partly because it has within itself a wandering pace. The work consists of 14 small parts (played without breaks). I do not regard it as 14 variations: it is rather 14 different versions like 14 flowers grown from the same musical seed.
