The piece is a suite of six contrasting miniatures built around fragments of melodies which are repeated each time with subtle variations. Particularly striking is the simple folk-like melody of the fifth movement and the dissonant almost grotesque march that precedes it.

Toccatissimo- Toccata (from the Italian toccare 'to touch to hit') is one of the oldest names for instrumental pieces and describes a musical form that is usually comprised of several parts. Each part is constructed from a musical idea such as for example chords runs or imitations of a short motive. Toccatissimo is a composition that consists of several parts executed in different tempos. The main key is G-major. The work begins with fast runs that move in upward and downward sequences.
