Eduardo Sainz de la Maza was both a successful guitarist and important composer. Although well known for his arrangements of Spanish folk songs it is his original works which are seen as most significant today. His musical language is described as eclectic combining impressionistic influences with Spanish musical traditions. Jazz was also an influence although much of his music is described as intimate and lyrical as depicted by Platero y yo Suite one of the most notable compositions for the guitar of the 20th Century within this unique collection of works.

The group Teach-In from the Netherlands won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1975 with the song Ding-a-Dong. It was the fourth time that a Dutch entry had won the prestigious festival but since then no Dutch artist has even come near first place again. The original Ding-a-Dong was performed in keeping with tradition with the accompaniment of a large orchestra. This sparkling arrangement of the catchy song provides a cheerful note in every concert. The melody will certainly stay in the audience’s memory long after the performance.

Parts available: KP01092 Preface / Programme Note The title of the work is borrowed from a fragment by the German poet Friedrich Ruckert. This fragment this short sentence (which Ruckert apparently neverelaborated upon) is the entire basis of the work. I was inspired by the meaning as well as the sound of these words. I perceive the meaning of the sentence as being a defence for the refinement of an individual's personal gifts - far from the present hostility toward individuality and the senseless praise of impersonal success in society. Personal refinement can so the fragment in my interpretation at its best be accompanied by a deep sense of responsibility and become an active and positive influence in society. The sound the timbre of the individual words and characters is employed both in straightforward text-sequences as well as in the exploration of individual vowels and consonants as pure sounds. The soprano is often used purely instrumentally echoing and pre-echoing discreetly the notes of the flute and the harmonics of the double bass often imperceptably stealing their notes and altering them into human sounds which then yet again are absorbed into the instrumental tapestry. Named after President Lincoln Old Abe was a famous bald eagle who served as mascot for the 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. Trinity Sunday Mass- The Missa in honorem SS:mae Trinitatis K.167 is Mozart's only mass bearing a dedication in its title and the only one written for chorus and orchestra without vocal soloists. We do not know the occasion for which the mass was written although it was undoubtedly related to the dedication. Perhaps it was first performed on Trinity Sunday 1773 since the autograph bears the date Giugno 1773 and Trinity Sunday fell an 5 June that year. The heavy scoring - for two oboes two clarini two trombe timpani two violins bass and organ - suggests that the mass owes its origin to a special festivity. Opéra en cinq actes- Against the background of the July Revolution of 1830 two libretti were written for the Grand Opéra in Paris by Eugène Scribe probably the best-known poet of the July Monarchy: “ La Juive ” and Les Huguenots'. Both operas are closely related to the politicial history of France. Fromental Halévy composed La Juive in 1835 and Giacomo Meyerbeer “Les Huguenots” in 1836; there are almost identical passages in the libretti of the two operas. From first sketch (1832/33) to the final version the libretto of La Juive was extensively revised; even the allocation of roles was different in the beginning. “ LaJuive ” stands in the long tradition of operas going back to the 17th century where the misdeeds of the powerful are held before our eyes as a warning and deterrent. The premiere took place on 23 February 1835. The opera became a great success with the public and was vigorously discussed in the contemporary press. In 2005 the re-release of the original Tony Christie version promoted by the comedian Peter Kaye was Britain’s best-selling single.
