The first volume of Couperin 's Harpsichord Pieces does not contain a date of publication however it is thought to have been composed during 1716-1717 due to the address which the composer gave on his other Harpsichord compositions. Yet the compilation remains a favourite. François Couperin (1668-1733) is often nicknamed 'Couperin the Great' to distinguish him from other members of the musical family. Many of the composer's works have picturesque titles. Examples of this in his first volume of Pieces for Harpsichord include Les Papillons (The Butterflies) L'Enchanteresse (The Enchanting) and LesPlaisirs de Saint Germain en Laye (The Pleasures of Saint Germain en Laye). Couperin 's moods are expressed through choices of keys adventurous harmonies and discords. With a significant amount of variation and inspiration Pieces for Harpsichord is essential to the repertoire of aspiring players of the instrument.

Having been considered as a 'fashionable' and 'cliché' composer of his day Hahn 's compositions are possibly not as well-known as they ought to be. Sonata In C Major for Violin and Piano however shatter these prejudices held representing the engaging diversity of the composer's music. Venezuelan-born Reynaldo Hahn (1875-1947) entered the Paris Conservatoire at 10 years old. He received a high standard of musical education from Decombes Lavignac Dubois and Massenet before becoming a prolific and versatile composer himself writing works for all genres. For Hahn music was a magical art andhis compositions often contain expressions of his otherwise hidden emotions and moods. Sonata In C Major contains a variety of different features making for a pleasant and evocative piece for advanced violinists.

Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013) was greatly influenced by his contemporaries Ravel Debussy and Roussel yet implemented his own unique style. His Figures De Résonance is an excellent duet for Two Pianos. This Dutilleux piece was first published in 1980 and is made up of four movements. Figures De Résonance is a group of sequences which forms a variety of sounds within an acoustic. It is a virtuosic and modern work with pedalling included throughout.
