Philippe Gaubert (1879-1941) was a distinguished performer on the Flute. It comes as no surprise therefore that his compositions for the instrument are at the forefront of the Flute's repertoire his Deux Esquisses being no exception. After a prominent career as a flautist with the Paris Opéra Gaubert was appointed as professor of Flute at the Paris Conservatoire as well as principal conductor of leading orchestras. It was during this time that Gaubert composed including his Deux Esquisses for Flute and Piano which is made up of two movements. The secondof these Oriental conveys many technical features including flourishing semiquaver passages a wide range lyricism intervals chromaticism and complex rhythms. Oriental from Deux Esquisses is a challenging yet exciting piece for aspiring flautists.

Regrouped by Joseph Canteloube this book is the third series from the set Chants D'Auvergne . This edition written for Voice and Piano contains lyrics in local dialect Occitan with the French translation below. Some directives are given to obtain the correct pronunciation of the language. It features five songs: I. Lo Fiolairé (La fileuse) / The Spinner II. Passo pel prat (Viens par le pré) / Come through the field III. Lou Boussu (Le Bossu) / The huntchback IV. Brezairola (Berceuse) / Lullaby V. Malurous qu'o uno fenno - Bourrée (Malheureux qui a une femme) /Unfortunate thus who has a wife Joseph Canteloube (1879-1957) was a French composer musician and author mainly known for his folk songs and for the series Chants D'Auvergne inspired by the area his family was from.

Composed in 1948 the Cello Sonata or Sonata for Cello and Piano by Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) was dedicated to Pierre Fournier the French cellist. Its four movements mainly ternary are as listed below: - Allegro (Tempo di Marcia) - Cavatine - Ballabile - Finale Pierre Fournier partly helped Francis Poulenc to compose the Cello part as this latter was not a specialist of this instrument. Francis Poulenc is French composer and pianist. He also produced Piano and Chamber pieces Operas ('Dialogues des Carmélites') ballets ('Les Biches') as well as some orchestralworks.

Being such a prolific composer particularly for Vocal and Piano works Gabriel Fauré 's music is always addressed with high expectations. His Le Chanson D'Éve for Voice and Piano accompaniment is no exception. Fauré (1845-1924) began receiving high quality musical instruction from age 10 at the Niedermeyer School. He eventually became a piano pupil of Camille Saint-Saëns. Fauré 's career saw him succeed Théodore Dubois as organist at the Church of Madeleine in Paris and become professor of composition at the Paris Conservatoire all the while composing sublime works. His song cycle Le ChansonD'Éve was composed between 1906 - 1910. As Fauré 's longest song cycle Le Chanson D'Éve is made up of ten melodies based on poetry by Charles Van Lerberghe. With Fauré 's music remaining hugely popular to this day Le Chanson D'Éve is a favourite for the vocal repertoire.
