Born in 1955 Lebanese-French composer organist and improviser Naji Hakim studied under Jean Langlais at the Paris Conservatoire before succeeding Olivier Messiaen as organist of the Saint Trinity Church in Paris. Considering his significant musical training Hakim 's compositions are created from a wealth of knowledge and understanding Concerto For Violin being no exception. Eight years after the famous Incantations for solo Flute in 1936 he wrote the Chant de Linos for Flute and Piano. Its pedagogical purpose - as an examination piece for national Conservatoire students - does not mask itsgravity: in Ancient Greece it was a funeral lamento originally sung in memory of the poet Linos who lost his life to Apollo's jealousy. In 1945 the composer transformed this piece into a powerfully charming quintet for Flute Violin Viola Cello and Harp. The Editions Leduc are publishing a transcription for Soprano Saxophone and Piano written by Carmen Lefrançois and approved by Christine Jolivet the composer's daughter. Lefrançois beautifully avoids smothering the delicacy of the music with the Saxophone's dynamics which could prove excessive in this context. French composer Vincent Paulet (b. 1962) studied at the Paris Conservatoire. His Antiphone for Alto Saxophone and Piano is a challenging yet exciting addition to the repertoire. A typical performance of Paulet 's Antiphone lasts around four minutes and fifteen seconds. It is a highly modern work addressing features of fast semiquaver passages exploited tonality extended techniques chromaticim and complex rhythms among other aspects. G.F.Handel 's (1685-1759) Sonata In G Minor is well-known to the Violin repertoire. Therefore when French saxophonists Marcel Mule (1901-2001) and Jean-Marie Londeix (b. 1932) arranged the popular piece for the Saxophone it was very well-received. The Sonata In G Minor is made up of four movements; Larghetto Allegro Adagio and Allegro. Handel 's Sonata In G Minor was first published in 1732 for Violin. Mule and Londeix 's editions ensure that the Saxophone part contains the articulation phrasing and breath marks necessary to the instrument. For allclassical saxophonists this arrangement of the popular Sonata In G Minor is essential.
