French composer Alfred Désenclos (1912-1971) described his music as romantic. His music is expressive and atmospheric as heard in his Plain-Chant Et Allegretto for Trombone and Piano. Désenclos studied at the Roubaix Conservatory and he won the 1942 Prix de Rome. His Plain-Chant Et Allegretto was published in 1965 towards the end of the composer's life. A typical performance lasts around eight minutes in which the Trombone solo line is enhanced by rhythm and technique. As expected the two movements are contrasting suitable for the advanced trombonist. For all Tromboneplayers seeking alternative and challenging repertoire Désenclos' Plain-Chant Et Allegretto makes for a riveting performance.

Francais - Anglais - Allemand- Published in 1934 and written by the French flautist and composer Marcel Moyse (1889-1984) De la Sonorité proposes a method to acquire a beautiful sonority on the Flute. Created for the use of advanced flautists the exercises should give a means to the players to transform their sounds and obtain a different and better tone. De la Sonorité is divided into five parts: 1. Timbre and homogeneity of tone in the 3 registers 2. Suppleness of tone (especially in the low register) 3. Attacking and slurring notes 4. Fullness of tone 5. Management of tone in interpretation Considered as a maestro by some musicians Marcel Moyse has composed many Flute methods and exercise books such also published by Alphonse Leduc such as Gammes et Arpèges (1933) Exercices Journaliers (1922) and Mécanisme-Chromatisme (1927). His methods are widely used and recognised worldwide.

This version of Cortè ge Et Litanie by Marcel Dupré was written for Organ. For upper intermediate players these 8 page composition is written with 4 sharps and includes the use of the pedals. The piece initially written for a small orchestra in 1922 was created for a play. Dupré integrated it into one of his Piano recitals and was later asked to arrange it for other instruments. These scores therefore exist also arranged for Piano Orchestra (in 4 and 16) and for the conductor. In terms of composition the piece is divided into two: Cortège which titledescribes a solemn procession begins in E major and lasts twice as long as the introductory theme; and Litanie which is describing the prayer sung during a procession and which follows the Cortège part to then be joined by it. Marcel Dupré is a French composer and virtuoso organist who won the Prix de Rome in 1914. He became famous when he played the work of Bach in its totality from memory in 1920. He later became the professor of many renowned students at the Paris Conservatoire such as Messiaen Langlais and Cochereau among others.

French composer and conductor Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) published Concerto for Bassoon 1963. As with his other wind compositions Être Ou Ne Pas Être for Bass Trombone or Tuba and 3 Trombones was well-received by audiences. Tomasi was born in Marseille but his Father and Mother were originally from La Casinca in Corsica. Despite being pressured in to musical studies by his parents Tomasi dreamed of becoming a sailor and during the summer he stayed with his Grandmother in Corsica where he learnt traditional Corsican songs. However in 1921 he began his studies at the ParisConservatoire and went on to become a high profile composer and conductor. Tomasi did not forget his Corsican roots often incorporating themes of the songs he had learnt during the summers with his Grandmother into his compositions. Être Ou Ne Pas Être is a highly unusual and modern work for Trombone quartet. The composition exploits tonality rhythm and structure amongst other aspects. However this Tomasi piece suitable for advanced Tuba and Trombone players provides an exciting alternative addition to the instrument's ensemble repertoire.
